First, and of utmost importance, I'd like to welcome Meghan to that most sacred of royals photos: the one in which it appears she's stuck in a plant and cannot extricate herself. This photo is a tradition with a long history, and her good cheer when being trapped in a bamboo forest bodes well for their marriage.

Meghan's coat is very pretty and warm looking, and I know that those of you who always want Kate to wear more pairs of chic trousers will be happy that Meghan is wearing pants. (I also am pleased with chic trousers, but need to note as I always do that Kate has a really long torso -- as do I -- and we long-torsoed people have a real problem sometimes finding trousers which hit our waist in the right spot. Meghan is blessed to not be thwarted by this and I WELCOME her years and years of ideally snazzy pants.)

Meghan's body language outside kind of made me laugh, in the photos that I saw. They were all, "eeeeee this is weird hi!!!!" She was very confident and self-assured in their interview with the BBC, but that makes sense: She can do a filmed press interview in her sleep because it's literally her job, and I'm sure she felt incredibly comfortable in that set-up, or as much as possible. But this level of public scrutiny has got to be BONKERS, and I don't know if it's something you can be prepared for. [Cut to Kate Middleton, standing on the upstairs terrace at her apartment of Kensington Palace. She takes a drag from her cigarette. "Tell me about it," she mutters, before ashing her cig right onto the head of Princess Michael of Kent, passing below.]
