# Met Ball Fug Carpet: Beyonce/Well Played, Solange

Some of that detailing is beautiful -- like, Katniss Everdeen "Girl On Fire SUCK IT OTHER DISTRICTS BECAUSE WE CONTROL THE ELEMENTS AND YOUR DUMB CHARIOT IS SUPER BORING" gorgeous. But the cut of this dress is eating her alive, in a Katniss Everdeen "oh my GOD I'm standing in a pool of flames and HAS NO ONE REMEMBERED THAT SKIN IS FLAMMABLE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE" way. In other words, I hate how it looks on her.

And then you get into the matching gloves and boots, and while I find them hilarious -- of COURSE they match, and of COURSE the gloves look like she is a circus act who is minutes away from actually juggling a fireball -- they also veer this dangerously close to an artsy PSA about the discomforts of venereal diseases.

And the hair feels kind of tossed-in; I know tousled is fine sometimes, but this strikes me like she was too busy using every single body in her prep room to pull on those gloves to have anyone, oh, brush it, or run some miracle cream through to the ends. Or possibly wash it.

I do enjoy the train's ornate tongue, though. It reminds me of the earring in *Desperately Seeking Susan*, and that is never bad. That movie is punk in probably a lot of invalid and wrong and true ways.

## Solange

And then we have Solange, who sauntered in cool as a cucumber in that gorgeous color, and a cool pattern and cut, and earrings that are watching me... and I LOVE IT. Will this be the most memorable outfit of the night? On the surface, no, but by the end of the week, most likely it will have crept up on you and stuck in your memory banks and you'll be wondering anew how Solange became the grooviest Knowles of them all. She plays to her strengths but does it without all the pageantry and I think that is SUCH a smart strategy to being Beyoncé's baby sister -- so much smarter than trying to out-crazy her. So YAY for Solange.
