How are we feeling about all the tassels as the predominant theme element? Overall, while I still stand by thinking this evokes less of China than it does Matador Who Once Ate At A Chinese Restaurant, the longer I look at it the more I think she is working it. Except for the lipstick. RED LIP, GIRL. Or at least not pink.

I really think this is ridic. She looks like a well-dressed woman playing the devil in a play that calls for her to enter in a cloud of red dry ice.

This is a good amount of drama, I think. I'm surprised this is Hilfiger -- I'd have guessed Marchesa. (WAS there any Marchesa, though?)

This is a lot more interesting and intricate than I often expect from CK. I think I would PREFER it if the skirt were lined, but honestly, the entire thing is so cool and well-made that I actually don't care that much. I think she is doing it EVERY justice in the world, and it is returning the favor. Sublime, even.

Thumbs up. At this point in the Met coverage I always lose the plot on whether I need to care if it has anything to do with the theme or not. I start off with great analytical intentions, but then it dwindles into basic appreciation, and I basically appreciate this.

I actually like this -- it's not often that a Marc Jacobs red carpet dress piques my fancy -- but I think I'd have liked it more with some tailoring at her waist.

If mesh could be sophisticated, this might be sophisticated mesh.

It's... dramatic, that's for sure.

This gown is wonderfully simple yet divinely fitted, and well-accessorized. She looks smashing.

Ooh, I like this. I REALLY like the shoes, though. Three cheers.

Considering I don't usually go in for that style of gown, she looks very nice. Her purse might be an expensive box cheese grater?

Jaime posted a pic the other day of her in an atelier, with a dress form that had a bump added in the exact measurements of her own. I guessed then it was Jason Wu, because she often goes with him at big events, and I was half right -- Wu designs Boss Women -- but I'm not sure the end result was much. I mean, it's certainly well-constructed, but Jaime King has very varied and colorful tastes, and so on Met Gala night this feels like a waste of a very game canvas.

Another one that's perfectly nice and also something I'll forget in ten minutes. I thought Reese was getting a bit more interesting than this -- honestly, it feels like I've even seen it on her before.

This person. Sigh. I need to tell you that I am COMPLETELY unable to lay aside my feelings about her and look at this objectively, so I totally hate this, and you can accept that knowing it's dripping with bias. I just find her to be such an unpleasant caricature of a person.
In some lights, the weirdest thing shows up: I was extremely concerned for a second that she had done actual tiger-print makeup on her cheeks, which you can see here and here, but it's gone in the main event lighting SO I think what it might be is lousy contouring that didn't blend? I THINK?
