Gigi Hadid (L) and Michael Kors arrives on the red carpet for the 2019 Met Gala, the annual benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, in New York, New York, USA, 06 May 2019. The event coincides with the Met Costume Institute's new spring 2019 exhibition, 'Camp: Notes on Fashion', which runs from 09 May until 08 September 2019.

Michael Kors said this was "the greatest camp gay dinner party ever," citing as his influences for this "a little Liberace, a little Cher, a little Elton John, a little Daisy Buchanan..." That all seems fair. I actually think Gigi looks fabulous and commanding and a little freaky in that. I would have called it Elton John meets Grace Jones, I think. His giant glasses almost make him look like he's Elton John conjuring his own patronus.

A tiny OCD part of me wants to tuck all of her hair tendrils under the cap. The eyelashes are otherworldly -- I wonder how long she left those on before they made her crazy.

Tiffany called this "Pimperella." She also apparently cooked herself chicken tenders and stuffed them in her purse, because there wasn't enough food last year. Tiffany Haddish therefore might be the hero of the Met Gala, and also I hope she got to KEEP the purse because now it smells like poultry FOR SURE.

She also said, "I feel like Patti Labelle but on some pimp stuff." Pimp was really her inspiration for the night. I do think it was hella effective and you KNOW she had fun.

This feels more 70s-inspired than actually campy. She looks awesome in it, though. I'm having a very hard time with this theme because I think you could make an argument for or against almost ANYTHING being camp, so in the end I just end up leaning on what I visually respond to -- which was rather a lot this year, and this is one of them.

Bette's daughter looks EXACTLY like her, and they both look phenomenal. Bette looks, as Brad Goreski noted, very Hocus Pocus. I support it. I also love that her daughter looks like she's performing in a Harry Potter revue on South Beach as Fawkes the Phoenix.

She looks stunning in that, but it's definitely not camp to me. Just adding a head adornment doesn't make it so. That dress would be right on the money at pretty much any standard awards show.

Now we're switching to Dundas. I'm sure the coat is meant to be Liberace. It's lovely, and funky, but campy? Not sure. As Liberace goes it's basically just a bathrobe.

That's a lot of beautiful work that I wish wasn't so underpants-focused.

Ciara said this is inspired by Diana Ross and Studio 54, although the dress feels more Cher to me. Truth be told, I don't think the gown is as worthy of her bod as it could be, but the hair is amazing. I want to know how she did it. It was big in the sketches he released before the Gala, but she FAR exceeded that, and it's perfect.

This is Cher-inspired for sure, and it's... very nipple-forward. More so than I remember Cher being? I know she wore a lot of naked-look stuff, but this seems a step further. It also looks more like she had a sketch left over from last year's Catholic theme. If she could turn back time, if she could find a way, would she take back that nip sling and wear something less cray?
