It's not that this ISN'T campy; we're all just keenly aware of Miley's sartorial history, and we've seen bigger and weirder and way more experimental and exaggerated. She does at least look like a sassy 1980s candy wrapper. Or, if you're from Chicago, she's like if a Frango mint came to life at Prom.

She would wear that any day of the week. I would have loved to see her branch out. She can carry off so much more than Maleficent boob patches.

I'm glad to see her looking happy, but I wish she'd come as the pottery scene from Ghost. Sigh. Brad Goreski said he and Demi wanted this to combine her classic style and Saint Laurent's strong DNA, which to me says neither ONE of them had any interest in camp. And so indeed, they yielded none. Oh, and if you're wondering what the neon blob is behind her...

I wish she had not taken it off. I hope she writes her labia a note of apology.

He was in a tough spot. He JUST won an Oscar for playing Freddie Mercury, and so if he'd gone much bigger than this, I think people would've been like, "OMG, QUEEN WAS MONTHS AGO, MOVE ON." Know what I mean? He couldn't go Freddie, so he just sort of... went shiny.

At least hers feels mildly... something. Wow, I am articulate today. Insightful. ELOQUENT. I'm not sure I have the energy for her high-waisted furry underpants.

He seemed to be having fun. This needed to light up, or something. Saint Laurent maybe didn't try that hard.

She looks so much like Molly Ringwald with the bangs that it's actually startling to me. (Molly being on Riverdale makes it even more jarring.) This doesn't seem campy, exactly; it almost reminds me MORE of that Manus x Machina year, where there was a lot of high-tech construction techniques.

I would not call this campy. I WOULD, however, say it's one of my favorite outfits she's ever worn. She's like a punk Belle.

This is hilarious. I am SO DELIGHTED to see her wearing something that's stylistically totally out-there for her. CAMP AS HELL, if we're looking at that context. And it's possibly camp anyway.

BUT SERIOUSLY. While the neckline is very Bette Midler Wears Helen Slater's Homemade Outfits In Ruthless People, this photo is full-on Bette Midler from Big Business and I will not hear otherwise. I hope she and Bette discussed this. And if you don't know those movies, go watch them. They are great capsules of the 80s.
