Saweetie
Costume Institute Benefit celebrating the opening of In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, Arrivals, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA - 13 Sep 2021
Let's give Saweetie the lead-off spot in the lineup. Her gown could have gone in the red slideshow OR even maybe the naked one, or patterns, but the glittering under the lights caught my eye and so here it is. The actual front of this seems beside the point, as she and Christian Cowan worked to make a train that's paying homage to the Black American Heritage flag and the banner of The Philippines. "That's what makes me an American girl," is what she told Keke Palmer.

AND the train looks great on the stairs.

Ciara LOVES to wear Russell Wilson's jersey number. This made me laugh, in a good way -- as a woman who wears a lot of jerseys herself, I appreciate this on all the levels.

She's usually a Louis Vuitton girl, so I'm thrilled she defected momentarily to Joseph Altuzarra. This feels like a slightly dialed down -- and laced up -- Krystle Carrington shape.

Emma is a YouTuber who handled some video coverage for Vogue (mostly interviews). She has Resting Unenthusiastic Face but was in fact very stoked to talk to everyone, from the bits I heard. This is precise and very sexy on her, but also nothing that different than you'd see any other night of the year.

Oh, Steph. Sockless?!? (They both look good. I enjoy that he appears to be popping out to say cuckoo.)

Yara said she and Jason Bolden worked to make this a tribute to Josephine Baker. She looks fantastic. She's got a absurd amount of presence.

In this shot, she looks like she's wistfully glancing back at what could have been, before climbing the steps to a wedding she does not want.

Sure. It's very Old Hollywood, or at least, feels like that's what it is referencing.

The matching headdress on Harris is beyond. I assume the design is all Harris's. Do we think the craftspeople are D&G's? The pattern on the jumpsuit does also feel like it evokes their work. Did D&G basically just crawl into the Met through the back door? Whatever the affiliation, I sure hope Iman knew about it. Or wait, maybe I don't, because then it feels like she kinda plotted along with them. Ugh. Neither is ideal.

I would have loved to see her wrangle that in person. Especially inside. I am guessing she took the whole outer shell off and just wore the gold jumpsuit, but I can dream of that headdress poking out over the top of a bathroom stall, can't I? YES. I CAN.
