Is this an Every Other Year thing? Like, two years ago, her Givenchy was also about this bare from behind, and then last year it was all FIRE and FULL COVERAGE, and now we're back to buttocks. And not for nothing: a) We've seen this so many times that it loses the ability to shock or impress me, which are the only two motivations I can imagine, and b) there is a part of me that feels like Beyonce, for all her perceived majesty and confidence, loses a little bit of that luster for JUST HOW HARD she is motivated to reminds us of how fit she is. She could blow my mind in something more substantial, and I kind of WANT her to. There are SO MANY CHOICES OUT THERE. Givenchy is a RANCID BEDFELLOW.

As for the actual dress: My first reaction was that it looked like refried Rihanna, because the whole robe look was a lynchpin of RiRi's Fug Madness 2014 campaign. But then it struck me that texturally it evokes this brown dress that she wore in 2012 that is ALSO Givenchy, so right away, there's a whiff of Riccardo Tisci recycling himself just a tiny bit -- and on a night that demanded a big dress, a better dress, a bolder dress.

And THEN I remembered that Jennifer Lawrence wore a tiny black veil just last year, and the whole thing felt even tireder. Having said that: I love the lipstick on her, and her face is unimpeachable. I like this outfit SO MUCH BETTER when I can't see any of it.

However, at one point I gather she lost her ring, and Jay-Z found it and returned it to her by mock-proposing and slipping it back on her finger. That IS pretty sweet.

Except, if Jay-Z can pick up her ring, can't he wrangle her train, instead of just standing there watching some kid do it for him? On the flip side, it's not the worst job, so maybe Jay was just feeling generous.
