I enjoy that Andy back there -- very dashing in that blue tux -- seems to be thinking, "I have some doubts about this."

I share those doubts. The dress was apparently a collaboration between SJP and H&M, and unfortunately, it sort of looks it. We're so used to seeing her in something like OdlR at this event that this doesn't quite measure up to her usual. And that headdress... I don't know, you guys. At what point does something like this stop being fun and whimsical and dramatic and start edging into a place of, "is this kind of uncool?" I suspect that is a conversation we'll be having a lot today, and I want to stress that I don't think SJP has anything but the best of intentions. But from what I understand -- and please correct me if I am wrong, as I may well be -- this is a take on a ceremonial headdress with a great deal of meaning, and wearing it is similar to wearing a Native American headdress, in terms of the fact that it carries meaning beyond "hey, look at this awesome accessory."

There sure were a lot of poppies last night. (Do you really want your gown to be recalling the Opium Wars? \[As i assume they are not for remembrance.\] This event is raising a lot of questions I've never asked before and this website is nearly 11 years old.)

Because I like SJP a lot -- I've never heard anyone who's ever met her (including us!) have a single bad word to say about her. She's by all accounts really nice and a total pro and a class act. And she always GOES FOR IT HERE and I also appreciate that. I am not sure that I appreciate this, though. It gets complicated.
