Maria Sharapova in Juan Carlos Obando

This photo makes me laugh every time I look at it. Not even in a derisive way; I simply find the single wall-art-size earring deeply, deeply amusing.

Maria Sharapova in Juan Carlos Obando

Maria thanked JCO for making the dress for her, which is obviously technically true, although its also EXTREMELY similar to the one Juan Carlos Obando provided to Adriana Lima for the White House Correspondents' Dinner just two days before. I find that a little bit questionable -- if you're going to all this trouble, and you are a brand that doesn't get too much red carpet exposure, and you have two HUGE events near each other, maybe don't do the same basic thing in the exact same color. It's not totally fair to either wearer, and it's making you as a brand look one-note.

Ivanka Trump in Ralph Lauren

This is actually a jumpsuit. Even so, I like it better than Maria's. But I'm unclear on what, exactly, makes it special for this night.

Amy Schumer in Alexander Wang

Here, she essentially found a way to wear the silhouette she defaults to most -- just with some chains and stitches. I wish she had done more to edge out her head accordingly.

Mia Wasikowska in Prada

My concern with this is that I don't think those two pieces have much relation to each other. They look like two disparate ideas that didn't come to fruition apart, so Prada chucked 'em together and called it done.

Lily Collins in Valentino

That feels like a giant red GLAMOUR DON'T bar across her chest.

Met Gala Fugs and Fabs: Ladies in Red
Not as much red as I expected, although some of it we did cover here and there in other posts. I'm always pleased with an event that does not treat red as if it's the only available color. [Photos: Getty]
