I like her boots the best, I think; they give the outfit a heft it's otherwise missing (like, a teeny strappy sandal might look silly with it). The dress ITSELF, though, makes her look like a car hop at The Jetsons' new favorite drive-up diner.

Selena's outfit didn't have the dots on it on the catwalk. I like this addition, and from here was gearing up to like the whole THING.

Then we got the glance at it in full, and the boots hit me. Somehow, I feel two conflicting ways at once about this. On the one hand, it's got a dated babydoll '90s vibe that's a bit off, and on the other... Selena is kind of ROCKING that babydoll '90s vibe. There has always been a part of me that is an extremely tepid punk -- you know, I'm into the easy trappings that people wear when they're not truly a bad-ass but they kind of wish they could be. For example, I wore my Doc Marten boots until they fell off my feet, I miss my bonus ear piercings (they closed over due to Accessory Lazyness), I am a total black/navy/anything dark nail polish person if I ever bother with it, love chunky rings on every which finger, etc. So that part of me, the Remedial Edginess part, thinks Selena looks great in this, and the other part of me -- among other things -- wonders if this looks too sprightly and daytime for The Met. Like she's not even meeting Val at the Peach Pit After Dark; she's going there at lunch for some pie and homespun Nat wisdom.

I am not that into the back. It shouldn't look THIS much like a leather sports bra that's been strapped on specially.

This dress is the closest I could find to Jennifer's. It seems like hers has a slightly altered bodice, perhaps? Honestly, I think she looks really good. Boots and all. I'm telling you, my Stereotypical Beginner Punk of the 1980s side is really poking through.

I am NOT, however, feeling any of this. The boots might be the ONLY part I would keep. Including her bangs. It's just... I can feel a joy, or enthusiasm at least, in the other three garments. This one feels like a smock of sadness.
