# Met Gala Well Played: Amal Alamuddin Clooney in Maison Margiela

I might have liked this better for the theme two years ago, as there's a edginess to the studded bodice that would've suited punk (at least, about as well as anyone else's outfits did).

But her other two red carpet looks were both black, so I welcome the hit of color, which she carries with total panache. It's just a cool gown. But the longer I looked at it, the more I thought I'd seen it before -- and then I realized that in a way, I have. John Galliano is designing this couture line now, and back in 2007, when he was still helming Dior, [he sent Cameron Diaz to the Met in this ruffled fuchsia that is awfully similar](https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/b0/37/8b/b0378bb5a2acbf9a58f2dc238317c375.jpg?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io). I guess if he's going to bastardize something, it might as well be his own work. Like being his own biggest fan. Self-esteem on a dress form.
