Claire Danes

This is a beautiful dress. I LOVE seeing Claire in this kind of silhouette for a change, as opposed to the sleek strapless or high-necked sleeveless column she usually favors. The ONE knock on this dress -- and it's barely a knock -- is that I wish it didn't look so much like Posens we've already seen (like Heidi's purple one, or Sarah Silverman's merlot from the Met two years ago). We might even have seen this exact cut on someone and I just can't remember; regardless, it IS a small nit to pick, because even if he didn't come up with a wholly new plan he did at least have to remake it in the special material. And she truly does look magnificent in it. Seriously, Claire, wear this more. Ball gowns are SO your jam, even if you didn't know it before.

Lovely. Just captivating.

The trick, I think, is making a dress that looks beautiful either way -- both in the dark, showing off its secrets, and in the light laid bare. Because here's the thing: While Katy Perry is throwing whimsical shade at people for this because she did it back in 2010, her effort didn't really look all that great both ways. Zac trumps that for sure, kid. Sorry.

I MEAN.

And then, back to her regularly scheduled programming at the afterparty. I would have left the big one on. Make people work around it! It's not like they couldn't SEE it in the dim room.

Met Gala Well Played: Claire Danes in Zac Posen
It's a shame Anna didn't think ahead and make a pitch-black portion of the red carpet, to encourage more designers to play with stuff like what Zac Posen did. Below are some videos of Claire Danes taking a lights-out turn about his studio before arriving at the Met, and it's amazing. I truly wish she'd gotten to arrive that way.
