This is the perfect red lip, and I wish she'd go back to occasionally wearing this makeup look. As you'll see shortly, Michelle's makeup artist is VERY good at a less intense lip situation, but I'd love to see her dip her toes back into this.

I was Mostly a Fan of This, with a few nitpits, at the time. You can't see it here, but the back of the bodice is flesh-toned, which I didn't love, and also 2012 was really Peak Peplum Time and I was definitely Peplumed Out. In the fullness of time, I actually think this is pretty great. (Although I still think this fabric could go all the way around the bodice.)

I also really hated the pin -- I thought it was too twee. I think that's because Michelle was VERY twee, sartorially, in 2011 -- MANY Peter Pan collars -- and by the time we got to the Oscars, I think I'd just had it. Now, I sort of dig it. (Also, again, she's giving great face here.)
