Also her abdomen looks like a gecko and I can't unsee it. ## Miss Japan ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020347v-1544744966.jpg) Editorial use only Mandatory Credit: Photo by RUNGROJ YONGRIT/EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock (10020347v) Miss Japan Yuumi Kato poses in her national costume during the Miss Universe 2018 national costume contest at Nongnooch International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pattaya, Chonburi province, Thailand, 10 December 2018\. Apparently this is in honor of a village that is entirely for women who've been rescued from forced marriages. STANDING OVATION. ## Miss Korea ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020642ai-1544745073.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gemunu Amarasinghe/AP/REX/Shutterstock (10020642ai) Miss Korea Ji Hyun Baek displays her costume during Miss Universe National Costume Show in Chon Buri, Thailand Miss Universe, Chon Buri, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 That is hand-painted, which is incredible. ## Miss Kosovo ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/2018-12-13_14-46-18-1544745261.jpg) That is traditional marriage garb, and it makes me want to move there and get hitched. ## Miss Kyrgyzstan ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/2018-12-13_14-47-04-1544745273.jpg) That is all wool, so I assume she's just trying not to pass out. ## Miss Laos ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020642ah-1544745062.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gemunu Amarasinghe/AP/REX/Shutterstock (10020642ah) Miss Laos On-anong Homsombath displays her costume during Miss Universe National Costume Show in Chon Buri, Thailand Miss Universe, Chon Buri, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 This is a folkloric half-human, half-bird, and she deserves a million points for successfully navigating two mannequins. THIS should have been the sequel to *Mannequin*. ## Miss Lebanon ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/2018-12-13_14-47-31-1544745282.jpg) "And once I vanquish your orange turnip, IT WILL BE I WHO RULES YOUR LAND." ## Miss Malta ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020642aj-1544745085.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gemunu Amarasinghe/AP/REX/Shutterstock (10020642aj) Miss Malta Francesca Mifsud displays her costume during Miss Universe National Costume Show in Chon Buri, Thailand Miss Universe, Chon Buri, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 Jessica has this plant growing on her terrace. Miss Universe 2018, Pattaya, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 This is based on a fishing civilization, which I get now that I can see all the portions of it that look like they belong to a boat. Very nifty. ## Miss Mauritius ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/2018-12-13_14-48-15-1544745292.jpg) It's hard to make a drum major joke when she actually IS trying to dress like a drum major (from one of their national parades). ## Miss Mexico ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020642am-1544745110.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gemunu Amarasinghe/AP/REX/Shutterstock (10020642am) Miss Mexico Andrea Toscano displays her costume during Miss Universe National Costume Show in Chon Buri, Thailand Miss Universe, Chon Buri, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 She is the Jaguar Queen, and I feel like Riverdale -- with its Gargoyle King/Gryphon Queen storyline right now -- really should have watched old stagings of this show to understand that mythical costumes should be way more than jamming some tree-branch antlers onto someone's head. ## Miss Mongolia ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/2018-12-13_14-49-05-1544745303.jpg) She's dressed as Mrs. Genghis Khan. She looks WAY nicer than he was. She's who you go to when you need vacation time for a legit reason but you're scared to ask Genghis because he doesn't always really LISTEN. ## Miss Myanmar ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020347cp-1544744885.jpg) Editorial use only Mandatory Credit: Photo by RUNGROJ YONGRIT/EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock (10020347cp) Miss Myanmar Hnin Thway Yu Aung poses in her national costume during the Miss Universe 2018 national costume contest at Nongnooch International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pattaya, Chonburi province, Thailand, 10 December 2018\. Miss Universe 2018, Pattaya, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 If you're thinking she looks like a tree and a pot of moisturizer, then... you are CORRECT and she obviously succeeded, as she's meant to honor a bark they use to make beauty products. ## Miss Namibia ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/2018-12-13_14-49-39-1544745313.jpg) "We decided y'all just wanted to see diamonds, so here you go." ## Miss Nepal ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020347cr-1544744907.jpg) Editorial use only Mandatory Credit: Photo by RUNGROJ YONGRIT/EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock (10020347cr) Miss Nepal Manita Devkota poses in her national costume during the Miss Universe 2018 national costume contest at Nongnooch International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pattaya, Chonburi province, Thailand, 10 December 2018\. Miss Universe 2018, Pattaya, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 She's dressed as a goddess who relieves suffering, which is ironic given that this probably wasn't comfortable. ## Miss Netherlands ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020642ac-1544745000.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gemunu Amarasinghe/AP/REX/Shutterstock (10020642ac) Miss Netherlands Rahima Dirkse displays her costume during Miss Universe National Costume Show in Chon Buri, Thailand Miss Universe, Chon Buri, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 The boat on her head is papier-mache, and it's way nicer than any papier-mache project I have ever seen. Although, granted, my experience is rather limited to my second-grade art class, where I made a My Little Pony. (It was Sunbeam, a blue unicorn and my favorite of that moment.)(It looked demented.) ## Miss New Zealand ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020642z-1544745233.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gemunu Amarasinghe/AP/REX/Shutterstock (10020642z) Miss New Zealand Estelle Curd displays her costume during Miss Universe National Costume Show in Chon Buri, Thailand Miss Universe, Chon Buri, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 "They wanted me to dress as Lord of the Rings and I wanted to go as Flight of the Conchords, so we just compromised with colors and I am not going to win. Miss Universe 2018, Pattaya, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 There's a strong feminist theme this year -- many of the costumes are pinned to aspects of strong women in their culture, this one being related to a female poet. It's amazing, but I'd like to edit out the bird. ## Miss Nigeria ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/2018-12-13_14-52-58-1544745322.jpg) "I cannot stop kicking plastic produce soon enough." ## Miss Norway ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020642x-1544745215.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gemunu Amarasinghe/AP/REX/Shutterstock (10020642x) Miss Norway Susanne Guttorm displays her costume during Miss Universe National Costume Show in Chon Buri, Thailand Miss Universe, Chon Buri, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 She designed this herself, and I wonder if she gets extra marks for that, because it seems BOLD to undertake this and therefore you'd be accepting a lot of time and size limitations. ## Miss Panama ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020347cs-1544744920.jpg) Editorial use only Mandatory Credit: Photo by RUNGROJ YONGRIT/EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock (10020347cs) Miss Panama Rosa Montezuma poses in her national costume during the Miss Universe 2018 national costume contest at Nongnooch International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pattaya, Chonburi province, Thailand, 10 December 2018\. Miss Universe 2018, Pattaya, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 There are 3500 golden beads on this. IMAGINE all the national costumes from years past that were just as intricate but are in a shed somewhere. That physically hurts me. Can't this be a Met Gala theme? ... OH MY GOD ANNA PLEASE. ## Miss Paraguay ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020642u-1544745182.jpg) Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gemunu Amarasinghe/AP/REX/Shutterstock (10020642u) Miss Paraguay Belen Alderete displays her costume during Miss Universe National Costume Show in Chon Buri, Thailand Miss Universe, Chon Buri, Thailand - 10 Dec 2018 That headress is freaking incredible. The designer has a bunch of different instagram posts about this, [but you can start here](https://www.instagram.com/p/BrNmKBGnk-6/?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io), if you want to know more. She looks fantastic, and also like she's at a circus about to get knives thrown at her. ## Miss Poland ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020347bs-1544744851.jpg) Editorial use only Mandatory Credit: Photo by RUNGROJ YONGRIT/EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock (10020347bs) Miss Poland Magdalena Swat poses in her national costume during the Miss Universe 2018 national costume contest at Nongnooch International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pattaya, Chonburi province, Thailand, 10 December 2018\. She is dressed as the way Puerto Rico rose up in the face of Hurricane Maria and remains a pearl of the ocean, if I am remembering correctly. So it's really creepy and evil but also hopeful, or something? I DO want to high-five all of her. ## Russia ![](https://static.gofugyourself.com/uploads/2018/12/shutterstock_10020347dc-1544744945.jpg) Editorial use only Mandatory Credit: Photo by RUNGROJ YONGRIT/EPA-EFE/REX/Shutterstock (10020347dc) Miss Russia Yulia Polyachikhina poses in her national costume during the Miss Universe 2018 national costume contest at Nongnooch International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pattaya, Chonburi province, Thailand, 10 December 2018\.
