It's so weird to see Ladies Edith and Mary all smiling and in modern-day dress. Edith is wearing boots! LIKE A COMMON TRULL! Mary is crossing her legs at the knee. LIKE A HUSSY WHOSE DALLIANCE WITH A DUDE WHO DIED IN HER -- oh, wait. And then there's Michelle Williams, who as an alumni of Dawson's Creek knows all about romantical angst.

OF COURSE they gave Lady Mary the nicer coat. Poor Lady Edith. LADY MARY GETS EVERYTHING. That being said, I actually think Laura Carmichael is totally cute. Her modern day haircut is way better on her than her Lady Edith hair. Can we all just hope that poor Lady Edith -- who was much less personally wretched in season two, although even more romantically challenged -- finds herself some deliciously angsty love like everyone else on Downton? And also that she gets to cut her hair? Michelle Dockery, on the other hand, looks great always.

Oh, right, this one again. Now that I'm looking at her more closely, is this dress made of light-wash chambray? Because when I say that I adore period pieces, I'm not referring to ones set in 1989. I am pretty sure I wore this exact outfit in middle school. But with jelly shoes, which made it much, much worse -- she is almost pulling this off, I think.

Michelle Williams: I was SO EXCITED when you and Matthew FINALLY GOT TOGETHER MY GOD IT'S ABOUT TIME I LOVE YOU GUYS SQUEEEEEEEE.
Michelle Dockery: I know, right?
Laura Carmichael: Even I squeeed, and I'm stuck in a plot line where I'm being Kept From True Love By Nobility and Circumstance but MY dude is like 60 years old and he only has one arm.
Michelle Williams: Remind me to tell you about the time I had to deflower the Beek.
Michelle Dockery: But he's cute now.
Michelle Williams: Time has been kind.
Laura Carmichael: The only person I got to make out with this season was a weird married farmer for like two seconds.
Michelle Dockery: Keep hope alive, Lady Edith. As Maggie Smith said, your time will come.
