'Australia' film premiere, New York, America - 24 Nov 2008
The stars were out in force last night in New York for the premiere of 'Australia' at the Ziegfeld Theatre. Directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, ‘Australia’ takes place during the bombing of Darwin in Australia during World War II. Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) is an English aristocrat who is left in control of a cattle station in Australia. She is assisted by an Australian drover (Hugh Jackman), in whom she becomes romantically interested. He helps to drive the cattle across the property as they are under the threat of nearby Darwin being bombed.
This is the movie that Baz just recut into a three-episode miniseries and renamed Faraway Downs. I don't think it was worth revisiting, although I'd take a second sighting of the dress if she wanted to pull it out from the archives.

Undoubted stars of the evening were Nicole Kidman and country music star husband Keith Urban. ‘Hannah Montana’ star Miley Cyrus was also the subject of attention, sporting a one-shouldered grey Monique Lhuillier dress as she arrived on the arm of her famous father and country music legend, Billy Ray Cyrus. American Idol 2005 winner Carrie Underwood looked stunning in a pink one-shouldered gown as she arrived to later pick up two awards last night: Top Female Vocalist and the prestigious Entertainer Of The Year Award, the first female to do so since the Dixie Chicks in 2000 and the first person to win it other than Kenny Chesney over the last five years. Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for ‘Fearless’ and, in a nod to America’s fast-changing attitude towards race and culture, Jamie Foxx introduced a performance by George Strait.
Fabulous and sexy.
