Ashanti

It sounds like Ryan Seacrest's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve had some trouble with the lineup due to Covid. I believe it was supposed to be LL Cool J, Karol G, and Chloe Bailey, in addition to Journey, but those three couldn't come and thus Ashanti stepped in. I appreciate that she tried to find the warmest possible outfit that still involved a minidress.

Ashanti

"Guys? I'm at rehearsal and we are going to need a bigger hat."

Ashanti and Ja Rule

Neither of these people is messing around with the weather.

KT Tunstall

KT also pinch-hit, in a very sparkly romper that she seems to have winterized. I like her shoes. The romper itself... is inane. I do not know in what weather you need a whole turtleneck but micro-shorts.

Liza Koshy in Moncler

I am delighted to report that Jenny McCarthy is no longer doing this show, having been replaced by Liza here. She was a little much at times, but let's be real, it's a completely thankless job, even more so when you can't talk to people who are randomly around you because of Covid. I think she often had to vamp by herself to fill time. I would be TERRIBLE at it, and she was very natural. I also enjoy and respect her formal puffer coat.

Michael James Scott, Mary Claire King, Ben Crawford,

Especially when you see what National Hero Mary Claire King had to wear. She's in the company of Chicago -- I believe she's a Merry Murderess, but also understudies for Velma -- and I hope they paid her a fortune to come out in that outfit on a winter's night and look pleasant about it. That is a PROFESSIONAL. Maybe they blasted that area with space heaters?

Liza Koshy

Backing up a second, this is what Liza wore for her run-through and it's CUTE.

Arnel Pineda

I gather Andy Cohen went on a (drunken?) rant about how lame NBC is, and how Journey without Steve Perry isn't Journey. I mean, okay, but Steve Perry hasn't been in Journey since 1998, and it's not this guy's fault. Arnel apparently sang with a wildly popular Filipino Journey cover band and the remaining members thought he was so good that they hired him in 2007. And he IS good. So sit down, Andy Cohen. I kind of hope they replace HIM next year with Arnel Pineda.

Richard Quest

For reasons I have yet to hear, CNN's Richard Quest went as the State of Liberty. I guess... comfort?

Jonathan Bennett

He also did some crowd work, and is doing his level best to work a Dan Levy vibe.

Seacrest

And, Ryan Seacrest looks exactly the way Ryan Seacrest always looks. When he's 80 he will look like this.

"Please tell me I won't still be doing this when I'm 80." Oh, you will, Ryan. You will. It's in the Dick Clark contract you probably signed IN BLOOD.

Miranda Lambert

I lightboxed all of these later in the day yesterday, and then absolutely forgot to download them last night ,but HERE THEY ARE. Miranda, WHAT IS THIS. Are those... knit dueling pistols with wings? Can we not?

Blake Shelton

Blake has looked, and will look, like this forever.

Kelsea Ballerini

Kelsea loves a shiny pant and a rock edge. I wonder if that is Saint Laurent, from the boob action. The top is VERY perilous.

Jimmie Allen

He is a sparkly delight.

Carly Pearce

Sure, okay!

Doja Cat

She was in Miami, and I don't know if this was actually televised or not, but: Doja Cat rang in the new year in VERY complicated pants the likes of which Rihanna would wear. I hope they are the only two who try it.

Happy New Year! Here's Who Rang It In On TV

Well, some of the people anyway.
