Olivia Rodrigo in Dior

This is really a good launch point for her -- classic cut, but in a bright, energetic color. Let's... ignore the shoes.

She got to perform that day in this some kind of caftan over sparkle hot pants. Loving the caftan... wishing it were made of the sparkle.

She wore this to her SNL rehearsal, and it's great on her -- she does the cute dress/punky boot thing well.

They had her go to the White House to talk about the importance of being vaccinated, which must have been an absolutely WILD moment for her -- I mean, at this point her single had been out six months, she'd barely done any red carpet work (though she had been on SNL, so that's not nothing), and suddenly she's asked to speak in the White House press room. I don't like socks and formal shoes, and you know this, but overall this makes a lot of sense for the occasion -- it's professional, it's put-together, and it's still youthful enough that her kid audience will pay attention. Case in point: My nephew said this is one of his favorites.

The aviators shot did make me laugh. Oh, summer. You were a simpler time indeed.

in Saint Laurent

And then. The Met. Where someone lost their damn mind. This girl could have worn some vintage Marc Jacobs, vintage Betsey Johnson... or, if she had to go with Saint Laurent, someone could've whipped her up something that felt like an homage. This was just... like going in costume as Kendall Jenner. No. My nephew thinks this looks more like a Rihanna outfit than an Olivia Rodrigo joint.

in Versace

This is a VAST IMPROVEMENT. It sits a bit low on her, and while I like the combination of colors, it looks like someone just made her lie down on a bunch of tulle and roll around and hope it sat properly. But it's like five thousand times better than the lace catsuit.

But the front was better than the back.

Again: Fun dress, punky boots, she should run with that a bit longer. My nephew and I agree that the stringy glove things are "eh."

They did a good job here making those billowy pleated slacks feel hip.

Saint Laurent

And then Saint Laurent got her AGAIN. This is sincerely the worst. It's way too mature a dress on her (though I do not think I would love it on anyone) and she was often fussing with it in photos. This was, like, red carpet 401, and she's still a freshman at this point. WHO thought this was a good idea? (When we got to this slide, you could FEEL the "womp-wommmmp" vibes coming off my nephew.)

See? That's more like what she should be wearing, y'all. They seem to get her only sporadically. My nephew is not enamored of this pairing but he thinks it's better than the previous slide, which was a big F from him.

in Saint Laurent

The first time we wrote about this, I didn't notice that there's a bow along the hem, right under her crotch area. Sigh. It's still an improvement over the other two Saint Laurents in this slideshow.

in David Koma

I like 85 percent of this -- the cut, the color, the shimmer. Lose the sheer and we might even get to keep the furry hem. It's just... pointless sheer. The worst kind. My nephew says, "She looks like a mermaid," and that is his highest compliment.

in Calvin Luo

Maybe it's daywear that they're better at with her, and are struggling with the Evening Gown Competition? Because this was for a lunch and it feels on-brand. My nephew appreciates the contrast the bow provides. His words!

As does this, at a Teen Vogue event. That blouse is genuinely cute. She seems a lot more at-ease in this. I guess let's hope for more panel discussions and lunches in 2022 for her, and then a REAL come to Jesus with whomever orders her gowns to make sure they don't go haywire again.
