She came to win, and she did, and I'm thrilled for her. This is Old Hollywood glamour. My only quibble is why the skirt seems to turn... if not sheer, more translucent than the top. Am I staring at the lines of her shapewear? Should I be staring at ANYTHING in that region? I say nay.

This is perfect. She is making me love blue and black together; the richness of the blues and the intricate quillwork -- an Indigenous technique for "textile embellishment," per Wikipedia -- make it sing, as well as the art in the way it was styled. Her jewelry, her hair, her makeup... it's all perfect.
Joe Big Mountain is an Indigenous artisan -- Mohawk, Cree, and Comanche -- known for quillwork jewelry. He and his wife, Sunshine, worked with Gucci in Italy to create a gown that paid tribute to that by folding in quillwork. The whole piece at Vogue about it is fantastic and detailed.

Well, look. I don't love it. I did at least appreciate that the peplum really held its shape and didn't flop, but from there down, it IS kind of a flop.
This is the face of a conflicted woman! I think she and Lily truly have become friends and that this was really hard for both of them.

This is totally Sally Field stepping in and being her grandma, right? Aw. I thought this was lovely. And you know Sally Field gives GREAT pep talks. (Also, I am not trying to imply that this is all about Emma, or that Emma made it about Emma; the cameras just captured more of this side of it.)
Lupita in Armani
This was originally made for her in 2020, and I assume the unspoken is, "But then, COVID." So she wore it here, on the 10th anniversary of her Oscars win for 12 Years a Slave, and on a night when she presented to a new Best Supporting Actress who -- coincidentally -- wore the same color. She chose it because it lightly echoes the dress she wore in 2014.

I would not have expected to like a feather half-peplum? But it's glam on her. And although this looks like a rom-com in the making, she is with Joseph Quinn not because they are dating but because they're in the Quiet Place prequel together. Or, because they are friends, which itself is likely because of the prequel. Anyway! Pacey is still in the game.

This color was really popular, and NONE of the E! commentators knew what to call it, and at one point somebody referred to Lupita's as seafoam? NO. IT MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT. Ava looks gorgeous, and as much as they are the lone design detail, I'm not sure it even needed the belt straps.

I decided I like the black around the back of the collar because it makes the shirt and tie feel that much more relevant. It's sharp!
Hailee Steinfeld in Elie Saab
This is another one they couldn't figure out, and someone concluded it's pistachio. HARD PASS on that assessment. I'm not sure what color it IS? I'm sure I'd use like 40 words for it. "Dusky lightish-green-blue." Does it need to sit higher? Where it is, she sort of looks like she should be emerging from a giant seashell.

Okay, I love this. She and Ariana Grande each wore tributes to their Wicked characters, and this was VERY successful. It plays well on its own even if you don't know what the inspiration was, whereas Ariana's -- which will come later today! -- ONLY works if you know she's being Glinda. (And even then...?)(We'll get there.)
I just love the shape of it on her. Not everyone could carry it.

I bet this really works in person. I can't decide, in photos, if the mix of textures works, and I am not sure the mix of colors entirely does either -- and THAT might actually be why I'm wondering about the texture. It's too much that doesn't blend.
