Whoopi Goldberg in Christian Siriano
This is so bold for Whoopi. I love that Christian got her into a full-on ball gown -- under which she wore hiking boots for comfort -- and as much as this looks like it could be from his Bed Bath & Beyond collection, I am totally on board with it. It's like fireworks crossed with thneeds -- the second Lorax reference I've been able to make in the last week, which is always a treet -- and it's so unexpected from her. I want her to hook that skirt to her finger and dance a waltz with Oscar Isaac or something (he just looks like he'd know how to sweep a lady into a dance).
Betty Gabriel in Tony Ward
Wow. This is a LOT of responsibility to heap upon one stretch of netting. (That IS netting, right? Or did they just duct tape that thing into place?) Betty as a human looks beautiful, but the gown looks like it slowly eroded off her torso, and I am bummed that I can see her underpants.
From the back, though, it's dreamy. It was breezy and not enormously warm in L.A., so maybe she just wanted her front and back to be equally wind-whipped?
Leslie Mann in Zac Posen
I LOVED this when I first saw it, but then doubt began creeping in, and I wondered if the bodice design looked like mud splatter.

This dress is CRAZY. There are so many elements, and having her hands jammed in the pockets AND hemmed in by the cape doesn't do much to sell the shape. And yet... y'all, it's not my favorite of the night, but I am increasingly charmed by its wackiness. It's basically a double-sided boob cape, and honestly looks like it should be a museum piece. Imagine it under the lights at the Met someday.

This could have gone in a couple different slideshows, but I kept wanting to bounce it back in here, and so here it lives. She looks stunning in it, AND she had a baby two months ago.

What really gets me, though, is this seam running all the way up the transparent turtleneck. It looks like she herself was sewn together.

This MIGHT be the worst thing Zac Posen has ever designed. Did he even really design it, or did he do peyote while watching Marie Antoinette and then he woke up with this on a dress form in front of him?
Andra, at least, thought of a much better way to sell it.
