You don't see this hue on the red carpet very often, and I like the idea of it, but I'm back and forth on whether it makes her look sallow. (I say this as someone whom I DO think it would make look sallow.) Emeralds with it were a weird choice. The necklace on its own is fabulous, but the greens clash, and it makes the dress suffer by comparison. Sapphires, diamonds, a ruby... any of that would have been better contrast. Also, I love making judgemental comments about million-dollar jewels. I need to start an judgemental celebrity jewelry blog. Go Frost Yourself, right, Matthew McConaughey?

She is so consistent: super bright color, super big skirt. She likes this type of bodice cut, too; this is the dressy take on her beachy Valentino from Santa Barbara. I like this one on her a LOT, actually. I wish the shoes were metallic. The dyed-to-match feel cheesy.

However, let's applaud her makeup team for matching her lipstick to her jewels. It's perfect.

Sigourney Weaver wore this color 10 years ago to a rainy Golden Globes, and here we are with a rainy Oscars. She still wears it well and still looks freaking fantastic. I did sort of bristle at the bit where the telecast had her and Brie and Gal come out and be like, "ALL WOMEN ARE SUPERHEROES," as if that's supposed to make up for the fact that the Academy traditionally doesn't take female filmmakers very seriously. It came across as the Academy scrambling to absolve itself.

It's been a while since I thought a Vera Wang gown fit that precisely, so this is nice, and of course Julia looked super.

"Hello, are you coming to Jay Z's Oscar party? The shuttle windows are tinted, but I'll still be collecting your cell phones for the duration of the drive. We'll leave as soon as the bus is full."

He wrote the song Cynthia Erivo performed at the Oscars -- it might have been better than the Elton song that won, but Elton was never not going to win - and I love his suit, and his mother looks delightful.

Her skirt looks like one of those fold-out paper lanterns. I don't even know if I'm describing those correctly. ALSO, because of the backdrop, I almost missed that she's got on a quirky hat as well.

Spike's outfit is a tribute to Kobe Bryant. Sidebar, Kobe won an Oscar last year, and the Oscars are in L.A., but did anyone else think it was odd that they OPENED the In Memoriam with him? If they weren't going to do it chronologically, I feel like... opening with one of the longtime Hollywood legends who passed might have felt more on-theme? ALSO, not forgetting LUKE FREAKING PERRY, who was IN ONE OF THE NOMINATED MOVIES YOU JERKFACES, would have been nice (he's on the website but not in the montage, so they clearly KNEW he was due). But I digress. Kobe should have been in there, but I might have opened with, oh, John Singleton, or Doris Day, or Carroll Spinney. (Wait, was he in it? Tell me he was. FOLLOW THAT BIRD IS A MOVIE.)

Gerard shares my feelings.

This is him playing to the E! 360 cam, I think, but it made me laugh. Nice to end on an up note, I think.
