Oscars 2026: Black and White

This is mixed for me: I love it MOSTLY, but I am on record as not thinking belly buttons are very chic. I always think of the time I heard Brad Goreski talk about the degrees of midriff that he thinks can work, and Visible Navel was where he thought things tipped over the line from chic to yeesh, and I think he's right and that this dress did not need a sheer panel at all. Having said all that, I mean... she looks fantastic.

Anna Wintour

This is the most interesting thing she's worn in a while -- the addition of the jacket, and it's intriguing cut, makes this quite unexpectedly chic and frankly I think she killed it all NIGHT.

I appreciate that she said this was a nod to ballet, but it wasn't custom, and I wish it had been. Because I maintain that one can do "nod to ballet" much, much better than whatever this sad, lazy ruffle this is.

This probably should have gone in with white, but WHATEVER, I STOLE HIM, HAHAHA, ME!!!!! Anyway he was almost unrecognizable to me for a moment because he is so scrupulously groomed. I don't know if I think the shirt fits and the giant chrysanthemum is hilarious, but he's still a delight to me.

She wore something VERY drapey and pale to the Globes, and has mostly picked black the rest of the way, so this is like splitting the difference. It's like a big textural tongue starting to unfurl and strangely that is not an insult.

He always looks interesting, but this looks very... laden... around his neck.

Jack O'Connell

I guess he's in Sinners! I missed that. He looks fine.

Alicia Silverstone in Christian Siriano

I like that her necklace gently echoes the cut of the neckline -- that's a nice choice. This is a less effective deployment of the "skirt slips down at the sides" design than I've seen before, though.

Adam Pearson

He starred in A Different Man with Sebastian Stan last year, and is about to be in an Elephant Man remake. His suit VERY snazzy.

Manu Rios

This might be more grey than black-and-white, and could've gone in the patterns/prints post, but I'm drunk on power. I love his stripes. MORE STRIPES.

Ruth E. Carter

I am sad she lost, but I get the sense Frankenstein is not an unpopular win for costumes. Her bodice looks a tiny bit like frilly undies.

Derek Hough

He honestly looks super. Watching Dancing With The Stars the last few years has made me a little frustrated with him as a judge, BUT I am all-in on how talented he is, and I was SUPER moved by his first dance with his wife after her recovery from catastrophic seizures. So I'm a softie now basically.
