We begin with Anna Kendrick, one of the newbie darlings of last year's Oscars. She's in a Notte by Marchesa, which I find to be an interesting name for a secondary line, because it totally reads like they're saying, "Yeah, this is not REAL Marchesa." And this is, in fact, visually a discount version of the dress Vanessa Hudgens wore to the Fall 2011 Marchesa show. Not that it doesn't have its own merits; just that it looks like when they decided they didn't have time to bother with intricate ruffling everywhere, they just slapped on a giant bow.
Dear Anna: Nothing against Vanessa Hudgens, but if you're an Oscar nominee and you're being given the lesser version of something somebody from High School Musical wore, you should maybe consider feeling slighted.

This Monique Lhuillier looks very pretty on Anna. I just Googled what the dress is, and one of the random entries that came back was a comment on an article about Selena Gomez, and it read, "Anna Paquin is almost 29, isn't she? Why is she being included in an article about young people?" Oh, INTERNET. You make me feel like a grandma.

This was Anne's first dress of the night -- a Valentino with an ass bag. Although a lot of people really liked it. Presumably including Anne.

This was one of Anne's telecast gowns, which she changed into for the Vanity Fair party. I don't blame her. The Tom Ford in which she closed it was a creepy mess, and this Valentino is stunning.

Love seeing her with her natural hair, since the trend lately is for everyone to blitz the curl right out of their tresses (SIGH, Nicole Kidman). The dress is pretty, but I don't think it's special enough to beat out some of these others, nor heinous enough to defeat them in the other poll.

Yikes.

The OTHER interesting things about that NY Times article: Apparently Jennifer herself was the one dead-set on red, and so her stylist got three dresses custom-made for her. This was the only one specifically mentioned in the article, and she said it was inspired by a photo shoot Jennifer did in a maillot, that was ITSELF evocative of an older Helmut Newton picture. So Baywatch: The Dress was even closer to the truth than we thought. However, she does look damn spectacular in it.

I can't.

This is a very lovely dress, but it's almost too close to Hathaway's Valentino to really stand a chance. OR IS IT?

This is a very simple Monique Lhuillier -- pretty, but again, maybe not enough to push her to either extreme on the spectrum.

I mean, come on. I had my dudes 19 months ago and I wouldn't have the confidence to wear this.

Poor Sandy. This must be the world's suckiest trip down memory lane.

She is red-hot with Bieber fever.

This dress leaves me more stone cold than Steve Austin.

Zoe definitely wins for the Most Avant-Garde red, but is it the BEST one?
