In addition to looking like a hologram, she also looks like a future "Real" Housewife Of Beverly Hills.

I love her bracelets; not sure about wearing a fabric cage over one's ribcage. Also, is it just the angle, or is the makeup doing severe things to her face? Like, I look at this and I wonder if Donatella is trying to cultivate herself a clone.

Donatella HERSELF looks like her head was plopped atop a vase. And boy, in this photo, you can see how tight that bodice is on Gaga. It's smashing in the way you DON'T want. But let's pull back and evaluate the whole thing.

I still don't know WHY she was at the Oscars; she was a nonentity there, so maybe she was just Donatella's date, or her management team decided a moment of understated participation would be good for her. (Probably correct.) I've read a lot of knocks on this dress. And I will be honest, I keep expecting not to like it because it's hard to take Gaga seriously, even if she's ostensibly being serious. The fit on the bodice is super problematic, and the scarf veers for me between amusingly melodramatic and silly.

But the pattern on the dress is actually cool to me, and she's super hourglass-y in it; I feel like if, say, Camila Alves had worn it, with her dark hair loose and the fit proper, there might be more of a fondness for it, just because the context would be different.

But mostly I appreciate the relative restraint Gaga is showing. When you hear "Lady Gaga is coming to the Oscars," you probably think, "Oh, God, how tall will her platforms be, and will there be whips and chains?" This shows a heretofore rarely displayed ability to let someone else have a moment, without totally giving herself over to something banal, and I like that.
