I am thrilled that Helen wore color. Her gown is H&M -- part of an eco-friendly collection -- and Twitter was saying, sadly, that it also LOOKS like H&M. I agree that it didn't make it out of the limo unscathed, but I actually like the dress on her and don't think it's so cheap. The thing is, TONS of other more pricey ball gowns ALSO don't make it out of the limo without creases, so really, in the scheme of things, H&M is still offering a decent deal here.
Where it ACTUALLY looks like H&M to me is the back, where something funky is happening at the top of the bodice, which I suspect is just... it's not hand-made in a fancy annex by forty seamstresses.
I did think the addition of a borrowed brooch, which I now see has coordinating blue pieces, was a smart touch. It's very pretty. The top still won't lie flat, but whatever. It's H&M.
This was casually cool (at Independent Spirit Awards). I wish I had the legs to wear pants/boots combos like that.
... a tad matronly? But not ugly. Also,I've decided 49-year olds who look that good SHOULD go matronly sometimes, because then it makes us say, "Man, she looks matronly -- how old is she?" and then we look up her age and say, "DAMN, she is aging well," and so in the end comes a compliment and an imaginary high-five.
