It was quite windy when she arrived in this, and I don't think that was the kindest outcome for this dress, which just looks like a tulle muu muu over a nightgown.

It was just as problematic on the red carpet itself, thanks to the weather. It looked a bit more ethereally sweet on the runway. But I will say that this photo is very arresting, as if Julianne were concurrently shooting a L'Oreal ad.

Holy shitballs. I mean, that's rude, and inelegant, but it's genuinely what first came to my head. It's Chicago + cheerleaders + ACK.

Helen Mirren in Sassi Holford

Her head is resplendent, but this dress doesn't seem quite worthy of her, does it? I think it's the cut and the materials that just don't seem elevated in the way I would want for Dame H.

I do like this, and I also have to say that I respect he hell out of her for being like, "I'm wearing heels later. I am NOT doing it twice."

Sally Hawkins in Vivienne Westwood

This looks okay, I guess? Those shoes are screaming at me. I understand this has a high degree of difficulty, but with such a small opening to show her feet, I'd have gone a bit more minimalist and maybe with gold?

That's cute and comfy-seeming.

I personally think she was right to lose the demi-corset that went down the runway.

I... KIND OF like this? It's a scrolldown for me. The top is actually good, but I think I'd have preferred it with black and/or leather pants, as opposed to cropped J Brands that are intentionally sloppy. That undercuts things, and then the gigantic mules clomp mercilessly all over the rest.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

It's... I mean, I am so distracted by whether I can see bits of her bra that I don't even know what I think of the rest. Presumably that translates into a "no."

Gotta be honest, I don't love this either. If you want to wear beige, wear beige. This is like Trick Beige. You THINK it's blue, but really, that's just perfunctory.

Rebecca here, who's been known for her share of sartorial wackitude, has had a great Venice. This is a dress, and I just noticed I downloaded a weird picture where she's walking and it makes it look like it COULD be pants? But it's not. I also love this shoe choice.

And that's elegant. I will say that the waist-bracelet feels random, as if she added it because the dress itself was too bland. If it was part of the design, it's weird that the dress itself has a waistband but the gold doesn't engage with anything but her boob pits. But overall I still think she looks lovely.

Not my favorite look on Jane. It's like a fence that's arguing with someone's garden.
