So, the Scots charge... the way the Scots charge. Claire warned Jamie about all the artillery, but he was unable to change anyone's mind though I DID notice he cleverly was not at the front of the line so no bullet hit him.

However, they hit everyone else. What I think of as the "Bring Out Your Dead" cart is being wheeled through to collect any extra swords and useful goods the corpses are packing.

MURTAGH I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU. Like the best angel, he pops by to save Jamie's life a time or two, and then disappears onto the battlefield. But not before appearing to be enjoying himself immensely. BE SAFE MY FRIEND.

And then the light turns romantically golden, which is... a choice. I'm sure it's symbolic of how Jamie's focus is becoming laser-true, like a spotlight. Because he's seen Black Jack.

"I'm feelin' a bit off. Does meh throat look red to yeh?"

"There there, Jamie. Strep throat won't kill you."

"NAE, BUT I'LL KILL YOUUUU."

As Dylan would say when he's trying to convince me to stay with him until he falls asleep: "Huggy hug!!!"

And this is how we find them. Tell me that imagery isn't all very intentional. The relationship between these two has been very... specific... and while there is a cleverness to it, this also fetishizes it in a way that is a bit jarring when you consider the fullness of what Jack did to Jamie.

So let's get high off the fumes of an apartment instead. We have GREAT FLOORS and FLOWERED WALLPAPER...

And THE BUILT-INS, and the bay window! This is Frank's office and I want it to be mine.

AND THE MOULDING. Also, this set design is pretty symmetrical.

That seems to be a popular concept.

Claire does not appreciate her vintage stove as much as I would have. But maybe she's just cranky that maternity-wear in the late 40s is not as foxy as in Paris.

HALLWAY PORN. This is where Frank is leaving after their fight, and Claire bursts into tears. She HATES her cardigan, I guess.

Aw, but Frank really loves her. This is a nice shot because it's true that Claire is not quite in focus for him anymore -- not quite there -- and may never be again.

Smuggy Blowhard from Harvard looks exactly as you imagine, right?

Lord Merton and his underling are very proper. That actor was quite good. When the underling suggested killing Jamie under an alias, he gave the guy a brief disgusted look that's also really dismissive -- like, "The ways you are an idiot are beyond even explaining to your pea brain."

Sigh. Goodbye to the Mad-Eye Moody of Outlander. You'll be missed, Rupert. I hope it turns out that when they shot you, they aimed their pistols at the sky.

When Jamie pulls up at Culloden, he looks like this. What a job done by everyone to make Sam Heughan look SO NEARLY DEAD. That is one vital man and he looks like the plague here.

The look on Caitriona's face when she gazes at the baby is a thing of beauty. Claire cannot believe her eyes and arms.

And THAT smile is quite astonishing also. But I pulled this because one thing this show did was make her hair more tightly curled -- in a way implying Claire either cut it or is coping with different weather -- and it felt true, as did this bedhead. They didn't make it look pristine in most scenes, and THAT also felt real.

Oh, poor Frank. Where DID she get that red hair. Just say your grandmother had it.

MUFFINFACE!

So... I'm really feeling Frank now.
