Tricornlander

First things first: The hat WORKS, Jamie. It works.

Wanderlander

And so do the pantaloons. Your calf looks shapely in its sock, sir.

Shrieklander

Poor Geordie. Can't someone try NOT to scandalize him today?

Specslander

HOLD PLEASE FOR A HOT MAN IN GLASSES DOING SENSIBLE WORK SENSIBLY.

Shocklander

When Jamie comes to, please behold the way Sam Heughan's eyes go from hard confusion...

Awelander

... to a soft-focus, hazy joy, once he realizes he can relax into Claire being real and not a hallucination. It's quite a feat. Much has been said about Caitriona's acting, including by me, but Sam is too overlooked. He's really wonderful as Jamie.

Smoochlander

The first kiss. It's slow and it's wonderful, and frankly, with apologies to Buttercup and Westley, I think it might be one of the sweetest kisses in history.

Tearslander

And look at his face here, talking about how her image was with him in every dark time in his life and yet he could never touch her and thought he never would again. That you can see the weight of his emotion in profile shows you how hard he nailed it.

HALTLANDER

"WHAT HO, TRAMP, HALT THY PETTY WORKPLACE BONING."

Whoopslander

"Um."

"A POX ON THY LASCIVIOUS SEX ACTS AND UNTO THIS DEN OF SIN. I CANNOT ASSOCIATE WITH LOOSE HEATHENS."

Huhlander

"What the..."

"AND LIKE YOU DIDN'T EVEN INVITE ME TO YOUR ORGY. NOT THAT I WANTED TO COME. NO PUN INTENDED. BUT YOU GUYS ARE SO MEAN."

A.Hamlander?

He certainly IS taking deadly aim in those. Swoon. I read that Sam was very proud of including the glasses, and giving Jamie a way to have aged, and it does really work -- aside from also adding sexy sensible stage business.

Axelander

I'm so frigging sure Bri was out there chopping wood in a cold Boston winter.

Bikinilander

Claire really should not have been entrusted with going through the family photo albums.

Nopelander

This is a bad likeness of a kid who was a bad likeness of Sam Heughan. Nothing has been solved.

YAYlander

Fergus! How old do we think he is now? If Ian the baby is now 16, and Fergus had to have been... what, 11, when that happened? So he's aboue 28 and he looks 19. Well, what can you do.

Willoughbylander

I assume this gentleman will become important later, because he had to be included in this scene-setter episode. But considering they established him as a troublesome drunk, he seems very in-control of his emotions and faculties. Maybe it was an ELABORATE RUSE.

Swelllander

The closed-captioning says it all.

Dielander

"Well, hello there, Sudden Wife. I will try my best not to murder you in your sleep."

Backatchalander

"F*ck you very much, Madame."

Cheerslander

Not a bad little spread for a brothel garret.

Mmmhmmlander

"Did you bring your vagina?"

Yuplander

"I carried it on, yes."

Oooohlander

"And it's at the same address as before?"

Winklander

"Just ring the bell."

Ayelander

"If no one's home do I leave the package outside?"

Winklander

"Don't you dare."

Tielander

This is the slowest and yet most appealing unraveling of neckwear you can imagine. I'm glad Claire didn't mention to Jamie that the shirt he gently removes from her belongs to their child. That'd be some Funkiller Geordie shit right there.

Padlander

Terry Dresbach said on Twitter that they took real pains to make this from stuff that Claire would have had to use, like a bit of a couch cushion for the roll here.

Straplander

Or a long-line bra that she adapted into a corset, which was a brilliant touch. You can see its semi-homemadeness but it doesn't whack you over the head with it.

Ziplander

Claire also installed a zipper in her corset, because I guess that is the one modern convenience she could not live without...

ALLELUIAlander

... and Jamie's reaction is priceless. He's like, "OMG THIS IS SO MUCH FASTER AND BETTER. WE JUST JUMPED TEN MINUTES CLOSER TO MAGIC TIME."

Pecslander

Speaking of magic time.

Moanlander

The closed-captioning really gets it.

O-lander

Once the real fun begins, Claire spends the whole time looking like she just discovered irrefutable proof of the existence of God. It cannot be easy to perform a sex scene, much less one as vigorous as this one was, while also so fully inhabiting these feelings of drinking from an oasis after 20 years of thirst. You really feel that Claire knew she was missing a piece of her soul all these years, but that she still forgot just how right it felt to have it there. No euphemisms intended.

Dinelander

This is how I wish to sup every night.

Dessertlander

Followed by this pert sundae. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I did steer clear of Caitriona's nipples in this slideshow, but somehow Sam's butt felt LESS intimate to show.

Sidewayslander

Round Two was a slow jam.

Mantellander

Madame Jeanne keeps a nice room for Jamie here. I didn't hate his little cubby at the shop, but why NOT be here all the time? Orgasms are probably like white noise to him now.

Ianlander

This kid is actually very good casting for the child of Jenny and Ian. This show also excels at casting slightly doofy people.

Rudelander

And also the evil ones. This guy is the Bad News Bear who's going to try one on Claire, and y'all, I'm pretty sure that's going to end very badly for him. I hope, much like on Passions, she will castrate him by accident and then accidentally sew it on backwards because she's traumatized.

Outlander recap: The Ballad of Jamie Fraser
