Specslander

Oh, Alexander Malcolm, you scamp. It's nice to see you again. Parenthetically, Jamie using his middle names as a pseudonym wasn't REALLY that clever a way to hide, was it? I guess it worked, but still. PLANS.

Maplander

I love props.

Fearlander

Lauren Lyle was really good in her short scene. Marsali was always bravado and cutting humor, but she's super vulnerable here, in a way that's completely realistic when you're in a foreign land and pregnant and people die in childbirth more often and you have NO ONE to teach you what to do with a kid. Well, other than Fergus, who may have learned a lot in the brothels.

Bumplander

Also, Marsali is apparently 14,000 months pregnant, which makes sense because it takes a long time to cook a forehead as mighty as Baby Dawson's will be.

Skinlander

Just two hot people, surveying their hot, hot land holdings. Seriously, I want someone or something to light me the way this show does Caitriona Balfe.

IANlander

Ian's facial expressions continue to be gold. He's terrified here of bears...

Gooflander

... but delighted and perhaps slightly aroused at the idea of lions skulking around their camp. (Claire corrects him that it's just MOUNTAIN lions, not super groovy Simba lions, although they will certainly snack on him too.) Also his hat remains my very favorite prop on this show. It's so terrible. Captain Von Trapp would have ripped that off Maria's head so fast.

Nativeslander

The show cast indigenous actors to play these roles, which I'm glad of; that's as it should be.

Broodlander

oh don't mind me / just wilting from within / and from without / i'm a wilted dead flower / nobody loves me / maybe i should have bought her / earrings.

Booklander

PROPS! But let's nitpick, because that is my favorite thing to do: I feel like they would have used a lowercase "s" on "1770s" even if the rest was in caps. Also, I think I see a comma splice they forgot to close.

Axelander

Listen, I don't know if I believe Jamie and Ian and Claire could do this much work all alone, but it's certainly a pleasure to watch them try. Jamie is a dab hand at... you know, wielding things, and swinging them, and such. I just miss his kilts.

Claplander

And Ian is basically dancing with joy and clapping when they successfully uproot a tree stump. That kid is gold.

Joylander

These two spend much of the episode giggling and flirting and casually kissing and touching. That is, when they are not in moral peril, but whatever. It's a very nice, relaxed sense of happiness that we don't usually get with them, and it's prolonged. The actors ooze pride in their new land and an easy familiarity.

Hidelander

That is, until Ian goes full HUMAN SHELD on them.

Roomielander

Listen, Gail. You seem nice. But we've got to talk about your enthusiasm for Roger. You and Brianna are talking about going to all these rallies, so you're obviously a progressive woman, and you're not going to accept this guff from some twitchy bearded git in Scotland. You should be telling Brianna to STEP OVER HIM and go hook up with a dude who GETS IT.

Schmoopylander

But, Brianna still gets her dreamy face on when she talks to him. Sigh.

Firelander

Listen, I'm sure everyone did their research, and that Jamie and Claire know how to handle fire, but that doesn't mean this isn't VERY ALARMING TO ME. They were asleep and they have a roaring fire going outside their WOODEN HOUSE.

Gulplander

The sight of Ian wielding a cocked rifle is also not one of great comfort to me.

Meatlander

I thought you might want to see JQM's humble camp. And meat rack. NOT A EUPHEMISM.

Furlander

I enjoy how cobbled-together his outfit feels, also.

Pumplander

THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, JOHN GREY.

Flamelander

HOW DOES NONE OF THAT ACT AS KINDLING.

Bearlander

This is the best shot of Ursa Minor that I could get. It's... for SURE alarming.

Nativeslander

The lady on the right, Tantoo Cardinal, is one of the most recognizable indigenous actresses around; if her face looks familiar to you, it's probably because her IMDb page is a bajillion scrolls long. She has the kindest face.

Deadlander

This is Ye Olde Obituarye of Jamie and Claire.

Houselander

This scene, paired with knowing they BURN IT ALL DOWN soon enough, was sweet and sad. Jamie has framed out the main house, and carries Claire over the threshold -- she's in some of his old pants, which I like -- and then gets excited mapping it all out for her. There's a kitchen, and a huge table, and a bed, and... Jamie, you might have wanted to make it a BIT bigger?
