2001

This was about two years before they broke up, FYI, in case you need the pop-culture benchmark. (He was mostly doing theatre at this time.) They both look like they're dressed for their own secret wedding.

Alec Baldwin & Ben Affleck

"Look at us, Ben. Two hirsute young bucks. HIRSUTE. YOUNG. BUCKS."

Josh Hartnett & Cuba Gooding Jr.

I am concerned that Josh Hartnett tried to cut his own hair for this event and had a mishap in the front there.

Tom Sizemore & Cuba Gooding Jr.

"SHUT UP! You're in this movie?!?" "YOU'RE in this movie?!?" "Will we even REMEMBER in ten years that we were in this movie?" "WE WILL NOT, SIR."

Cary Elwes

"I am NOT in this movie, but I think everyone forgot THAT too."

Michael Shannon

Michael Shannon did NOT forget he is in this movie. Michael Shannon will never forget. Sometimes, I feel like I could look in Michael Shannon's eyes and see entire monologus he's given in other films.  As if he prints them out there.

Jaime King

She looks lovely. She's SO cute in this movie and her whole story is very affecting. I mean, inasmuch as any of the plots in Pearl Harbor beyond the bombing are affecting.

Faith Hill

The lei is what's making this interesting.

Courtney Love and Frances Bean

I wonder why SHE flew all the way to Hawaii for this premiere? Maybe Frances Bean was just a huge Josh Hartnett fan.

Dan Aykroyd & Donna Dixon

Dan Ackroyd's entire part in this movie is walking into a room and suggesting the exact right strategy, only to be shot down by a bunch of blowhards who are sure they know better and say a lot of words they will later eat.

Jules Asner

Hey, I remember Jules Asner! She is here. Here she is. Is she here? She is.

Michelle Kwan

I think she shopped at The Limited for this.

Here we have a photocall of many major cast members, sans Jennifer Garner (not "major" at the time, I guess) and Jon Voight. I am surprised they didn't hightail it to Hawaii for this. But Jennifer may have been in training for Alias at the time? It premiered in September and would have been picked up by now. Hell, she may have been at Upfronts... okay, I looked it up, and four days earlier she was indeed in New York for that, so I think we've found our answer.

"Gosh, your hair really IS thicker. Everyone thinks J.Lo did that to you, but you'd gotten started already, hadn't you?"

I wonder if Jaime did the photocall in Birks, or brought them to change into after? Her feet aren't in ANY of the group shots. But I appreciate the practicality.

Kate Beckinsale

This was the London premiere, and we have a Who Wore It Better situation on our hands: Kate Hudson deployed this about two months earlier, I believe. I think it's a dead heat until we get to the shoes. Kate's are stressing me out.

Josh Hartnett

"If Kate can wear shoes that are just basically one plastic toe strap, then I am NOT tucking in my shirt."

This poster says, "Ben Affleck is a proud hero, and Kate Beckinsale has to shade her eyes from his glistening highlights. Josh? He can't even look."

"All things begin and end with Ben Affleck, including World War II."

This poster makes it look like Pearl Harbor happened because Ben Affleck spent too much time biting Kate Beckinsale's forehead.

Pearl Harbor Came Out 19 Years Ago, And It's So Bad, But I Can't NOT Watch It?

The pictures are from the premieres; the discussion, from my heart.
