Nicole Kidman in Chanel

It's lovely that Nicole had something so personal to contribute, but it doesn't feel like she DID anything particularly personal with it? I suppose I don't know what that would be here, but I don't know why she went with the lank hair. Or the bracelet that might as well be a hair elastic around her wrist that I kind of wish she'd used. It's a pretty dress she is doing the least with, and that's a bummer.

She had a limp little bow back there, doing the least. At least she and Keith are still nuzzling. Their love is the "we saw the exhibit this morning" of Hollywood relationships. (If you were not on our chat last night on Drinks With Broads, this refers to the livestream hosts telling EVERY SINGLE PERSON that they saw the exhibit that morning, WE GET IT, YOU SAW IT EARLY, GREAT.)

This is the second surprise rewear! Cara Delevingne donned this for the Karl Lagerfeld memorial tribute at the Grand Palais -- one of the few (other than SWINTON in a riotous pattern) who did not wear black, so it stood out all the more. I'm surprised to see something so prominently deployed re-used by anyone OTHER than Cara. Not offended; I just wouldn't have thought it'd happen.

I am unmoved.

I AM MOVED ANEW. This is a wild and fun marriage of Christian and Chanel, and I love this for Harvey. I didn't get to see any of his work on E!, but I hope he rocked it. He did NOT have much competition from Vogue's team, that's for sure.

Viola Davis in Valentino

She looks incredible, but the entire time she was talking to Vogue, one of her feathers kept poking her in the face. She handled it very gracefully. Chloe Fineman asked how she was going to eat in that dress and Viola just said, "I'M GONNA FIND A WAY."

Grace Elizabeth in Christopher John Rogers

This dress was designed as part of Vogue's May 2023 cover spread featuring other designers' interpretations of Chanel, and at the time I noted it was a shame to burn that idea before the Gala itself. Sure enough, a couple of them made it onto the carpet, including this one.

Thick headbands were another staple on this night.

This is standard regular J.Lo fare — with the addition of a hat that she herself said she doubted. But if she hadn’t worn the hat, what would even be remarkable about this? It’s not a great hat and I don’t know that it pushes this on-theme in any way, but at least it’s SOMETHING. Of all people, JLo should be counted upon to go big. Maybe she doesn’t care about Karl or Chanel at all. She also appears to be wondering, "Hmm. Is Mary J in the house tonight?" Well, I have good news for YOU, Jennifer.

Okay! This won't make a best list, but it won't make a worst list, either.

I LOVE this on her, even if I'm questioning whether she could move in it. Maybe she hid a skateboard under there and someone just rolled her around. But it's got a wonderful shape to it, perfect for a night that's about celebrating art.

Georgina Chapman

And Georgina Chapman was also there, looking like Georgina Chapman.

Gwen is SUCH a dish; this maybe just needs a COUPLE tweaks to really sing. Like, perhaps a little more makeup oomph not to wash her out, and the putty-colored shoes are depressing.

I guess this is... a mix of hard-edged and Barbie? I would be lying if I said I loved it. The top fit seems off. Did Andie from Pretty and Pink make this?

Was she INTENDING to pay homage to murder? OMG did Karl kill someone?!? (In actuality, it's Wun's Wine Spill dress, and I would NOT be shocked if Karl HAD thrown a drink or five at somebody in his time.)
