Well, this event really brings a LOT of capes and crowns and carriages. I linked to[ a post on Royal Central about it](https://www.royalcentral.co.uk/courtandsocial/the-state-opening-of-parliament-explained-31469?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io) on Friday, and you should read it if you didn't then, because it's interesting. (For [actual proper news coverage, the BBC has loads.](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-27683240?ref=go-fug-yourself.ghost.io)) Apparently, the ceremony involves the taking of a \[ceremonial\] hostage, and frankly I feel that MORE official events ought to involve the taking of ceremonial hostages. Like, imagine how fun it would be if the Oscars made the host choose and take a hostage at the beginning of the show to insure that it ran on time. THAT is a good idea. Call me, AMPAS! Let's look at all the kerfuffle.
