Informal three-quarter length portrait of Elsie Schuenemann Roberts holding a Christmas tree, standing on a sidewalk in Chicago, Illinois, 1928\. Pedestrians and Christmas trees are visible in the background. Her father, Captain H. Schuenemann, used to bring Christmas trees to Chicago via Lake Michigan, but he died when his ship, the Rouse Simmons, sank in 1912\. Afterward his daughters shipped trees by railroad to Chicago and loaded them onto a ship docked in the river in order to continue their family tradition of selling Christmas trees. Let's turn it over to Informative Caption because this is nice: "Elsie Schuenemann Roberts holding a Christmas tree. \[ ...\] Her father, Captain H. Why does Swiss Claus look kind of like John Lennon?

circa 1945: Headshot of a kitten peering out from between the branches of a Christmas tree, over a wrapped present. An ornament hangs beside the kitten. (Photo by Lambert/Getty Images)

This was called "Christmas Puss." I can say with confidence that even people who don't like cats will think this is cute.

circa 1945: A kitten hangs from a fallen Christmas tree while another sits in the wrapping of the presents below. (Photo by Lambert/Getty Images)

THIS was called "Kitten Courageous." Which one is the brave one? The one hanging from a tree, or the one under the tree who isn't moving even though it's about to drop? To me it looks more like Kitten Assassin.

circa 1965: A young woman smiles as she presents a wrapped gift to a young man in front of a Christmas tree. (Photo by Lambert/Getty Images)

This is Mrs. John Louch, who made ornaments using her own everyday materials (seriously). She did a great job. Way to go! I wish we'd learned your actual first name.

## Christmas Morning

Okay seriously, ONE puppy for Christmas is a lot of work, but THREE? This looks like the toxic work of Fun Dad.

## 1967

"I'm watching you. From your shelf. Or your fireplace. Or your couch cushions. Maybe your closet. How about your lingerie drawer? Psst, nobody moved me. I MOVED MYSELF."

Oh, Charlie Brown, you always do try.

CANADA - DECEMBER 13: The Christmas 'People Tree'. Surrounded by flashing lights as they stand on platforms assembled in shape of a Christmas tree; 135 members of the choir of People's Church sing hymns and carols at special Sunday service. It was first performance of Christmas hymns at the church on Sheppard Ave. E. The stands were decorated with Christmas tree cuttings. (Photo by Ron Bull/Toronto Star via Getty Images)

This is people. For real: "Surrounded by flashing lights as they stand on platforms assembled in shape of a Christmas tree; 135 members of the choir of People's Church sing hymns and carols at special Sunday service." That's quite neat.
