Laura Dern as Diane

I hope this is an elaborate disguise, and that Laura Dern gets to wear a series of thrilling wigs. Also, when Miguel Ferrer comes to meet her, it's raining outside. Total deluge. "Fuck Gene Kelly, you motherfucker," he spits.

Naomi Watts as Janey-E

Not only does she look good, but her taste in handbags is very nice INDEED. My other favorite part of this meet is that she set it "at the park at the corner of Guinevere and Merlin."

The goons

It took me a while to place Jeremy Davies on the right; you might remember him from Lost as Daniel Faraday, aka That Squirrelly Looking Science Dude.

Mmm, chips

Agent Dougie is ENRAPTURED with every chip that comes out of his bag, and I have to say, I feel him. That is also how I feel. At one point he offers Sonny Jim one, and Jim refuses because he's already brushed his teeth, so Agent Dougie gently places one on the comforter between them as if to say, "Okay, then for later." To me, that is the ultimate gesture of love. I don't share MY potato chips, if I can help it

Tiny MIKE, big hallucination.

Naturally, Agent Dougie does not know how to hold a pencil.

The scene of him scrawling on insurance case files goes on forever. I'm not sure what the significance of those drawings is, beyond (accidentally?) exposing Tom Sizemore's character as Up To No Good, so I've decided he's designing rudimentary new levels of Lode Runner.

Deputy Hawk

We don't know what's ON the paper he found, but here it is, having been sandwiched between the metal sides of the stall door in the men's room. I will never look at public bathrooms the same way again. Hawk, of course, gets harassed by Chad, a police officer we've already seen naysay the wisdom of The Log Lady -- FOR SHAME -- and act like a general mouth-breathing plate of scrambled brains.

Chad

This is Chad. Chad is a douche. A dink. A dillwad of a dicksmack. Here, he's making fun of Sheriff Truman II's dead son, who killed himself from PTSD in the military. It's offered up to him as an explanation for why Doris is the way she is; Chad takes it and then is all, "WAAH, he couldn't handle soldiering," because Chad is a quivering turd in a uniform.

Our national hero, the dispatcher at the Twin Peaks PD, gives him a splendid "WTF is wrong with your soul" face.

Agent Dougie loves elevators. Agent Dougie REALLY loves coffee. So you can IMAGINE how enthralled Agent Dougie was to find out that Sonny Jim's bedroom light is on The Clapper. If Agent Dougie knew how to move his legs in any kind of rhythmic fashion, he'd have danced

Balthazar Getty

Balty's henchman back there smiles merrily throughout almost this entire scene, regardless of whether the talk is menacing or silly or just inscrutable. He's the most pleasant-looking man with a machine gun I have ever seen.

Meanface

"Magic motherfucker," spits Meanface in his car, when he angrily leaves Balthazar behind.

The Dead Child

This is from right before the child runs out into the road at a Stop sign, where the driver has waved him across. Meanface has decided that he is A TRUE MAN who is not to be minimized by some magic motherfucker, so he speeds out into the oncoming lane to run the Stop sign. He drives THROUGH the child, practically. It's really upsetting. This is basically my worst nightmare.

The mother huddles in the road cradling her destroyed child, while NOBODY around does anything but gape. Harry Dean Stanton, who'd seen them playing in the park and then heard the crash, comes slowly to them and squats down and just stares at her as if to be reassuring (right after seeing the kid's gold essence fly skyward). I do not know that, in this situation, I would find a taciturn Harry Dean Stanton to be especially soothing. I kept expecting him to, like, leak his own essence out of his nose and into the child to resurrect him, thus dropping dead himself. He did not.

Miriam

Miriam is the friendly, too-bubbly-to-be-true schoolteacher who tips big at the diner and makes sunshiney conversation with all and sundry. She is either a) up to no good, or b) about to get the hell murdered out of her when Meanface realizes there's an eyewitness to his hit-and-run.

Shelly

Shelly (with Heidi, the waitress from the originals) is like, "Aw, that Miriam. Such a big tipper. We should buy her pie." And that's IT. IS THIS ALL SHELLY HAS TO OFFER? I assume Twin Peaks itself will rev up in the latter half of the season? Where is her daughter? Can't she be up in Becky's grill?

Patrick Fischler

Patrick was asked in the pilot whether he minds working for a boss who asks horrible things of him. One such thing is: He is sent a red square, so he turns around and pulls a red-stamped file from his desk and sets it on the edge. He pretends he's cool with this, but as you can see, he steals a sickened glance at it before we cut away. So... yeah. Silent scene.

Tiny Killer

This dude really, really loves his ice pick. He taps the victims' faces with it before stabbing their photos silly.

And then after his murder rampage, he realizes he was SO energetic that he bent his lucky murder weapon. He's terribly sad. Perhaps you should have thought of that before you went apeshit on three people, son. Your bloodlust is RUINING your toolkit.
