That cut doesn't always work; it can look a little twee if it's not done right. But in that red sparkly fabric, it's ABSOLUTELY right. I have such an enormous warm spot in my heart for her -- she's been famous FOREVER, she's maintained a long and rich and interesting and frankly pretty fearless career, and she's come out of it seemingly very happy and settled. That doesn't happen often. Jean Smart is a brilliant actress, and she's ALSO had a long career. The way she's appreciating this run for Hacks/Mare feels like a woman who understands the randomness of Hollywood, of success, of what hits and what doesn't, of what scripts you read, what roles you get or don't. It's talent AND luck, and she seems respectful of that. I don't know.
