Singer Rihanna attends the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute gala in New York City. Rihanna wears Georges Chakra and Cartier jewelry.

"She looks so young here," I thought. She's only 19! Rihanna has been famous for a LOT of her life, you guys.
2009, in Dolce & Gabbana
This is objectively absurd, but also kind of cool and -- as usual -- she carries it VERY well. (I also really liked this hair on her at the time.)
2011, in Stella McCartney
This is TERRIBLE, though. It's like Victoria's Secret does Little Mermaid. The whole thing looks like it came in a plastic bag at Aahs.
2012, in Tom Ford

But Stella got to take another swing at it. This is MUCH improved. The top is a little...tortured, maybe? But she's wearing it EXTREMELY well.

And the back is really good; well played, all around.
2015, in Guo Pei
But who can even remember that Stella dress once they've seen this absolutely unforgettable gown from Guo Pei? It is PERFECT. (Fun fact: It's also lined in hot pink.)
2015, in Guo Pei
I MEAN HONESTLY.
2017, in Comme des Garcons

How do you top that Guo Pei? If you're Rihanna, you take a year off (she definitely doesn't come every year to this thing), and then show up in a look that is literally in the exhibit. I LOVE the wowed expression on the woman behind Rihanna; her face is my heart, when I see this.

This is like the world's most intricate, detailed, delightful craft project. It's tremendous.

This was also, obviously, fantastic. At the time I said that I hoped Rihanna got to keep this, because I wanted to see both pieces dressed down -- like, that coat with jeans would be major. (I'm not sure where else you can wear a pope hat, but I'm sure Rihanna does.)
