Let us get in the time machine back to June, 1999 -- the previous century, friends! Sophs and Edward started dating in 1993, in case you're keeping track. From what I remember, people commented quite a bit at the time on her resemblance to Diana (who, as a reminder, was killed in 1997), and...I can definitely see it. I do think quite a lot of it is the hair, though. In other news, Edward is not a skilled jeweller, bless his heart. The tiara is pretty enough, if a little forgettable? (It's rumored to be a new piece made out of a bunch of old pieces.) I feel like she could carry off a larger piece.

This veil seems like it's VERY AGGRESSIVE. Which is sort of romantic. I love a face veil. Had I e'er been wed, I would have gone for a very dramatic veil. 

I think this dress is...fine! Totally fine. Sort of boring? (Tatler, interestingly, interviewed Samantha Shaw, the dress designer, around Harry and Meghan's nuptials. You can see in the pics there, better than in these, the overlay/underskirt situation.)

The pageboy and bridesmaids looks are maybe a little on the nose for a wedding in the chapel where a very famous Tudor is buried. 

Look at these fresh faces!! I'm not sure who that is sitting next to Wills and his yellow tie, whilst in the background, Harry is VERY BORED of this ALREADY. (Harry is only 14 years old; Wills is almost 17.)

Yes, that's baby Princess Beatrice and the Duchess of Kent and her....feathered barrette? (Bea is only 10 here.

And there is Baby Eugenie (barely nine years old herself), and yes the short-haired women in front of her is Zara, who probably regretted that haircut. (She is 18 here.)

Charles looks typically dashing; I think of all three of these men, Andrew has sort of...devolved the most, visually. (I'd feel meaner saying that except he's terrible so.)

PLEASE behold Her Majesty's HAT! And frankly, her entire gown! She looks like a lampshade! Begging your pardon, madame. The color is divine.

She 100% still owns this and also apparently 1999 was the year that posh Brits just stuck a feather in their hair and called it a hat.

BUT SPEAKING OF HATS. When looking to make sure I didn't miss anyone important at this wedding -- no foreign royals came; it was a pretty low-key do -- I ran across some early snaps of Sophs and, y'all, she used to wear some HATS.

And this was at "the wedding of TV reporter Anastasia Cooke." Who apparently also dated Edward, as I learned from this old and gossipy BBC article about how he's not gay. (A lot of women broke up with him because they couldn't handle the media scrutiny, which I think is probably a huge issue if you're in the royal family please buy our book which is all about this!)
