Mary's dress -- which is both VERY beautiful and has a real Fancy Napkin Feel to the skirt -- was designed by Uffe Frank. The veil was first won by Fred's great-great grandmother (I think that's the right number of "greats"), whose Wiki page makes her seem like she was pretty great. She died young (it was rumored that she died by suicide but that doesn't seem to be true). This family had their fair share of tragedy; her son -- who might have been a Nazi??? It's unclear -- died in a plane crash in 1947.

Here's a better look at the veil, and while I love this dress, the back to me always looks like she's got a piece of cardboard left in it.

This is QUITE a train.

I love this fabric but it does maybe get a leeetle crumple-y? (As it did for Diana, in fact.)

This neckline is gorgeous and, for once, I approve of the size of the bridal bouquet. (Although it has perhaps too many tendrils snaking out of it. WILL I EVER LIKE A BOUQUET UNRESERVEDLY?)

I enjoy that this snap makes it look like Frederik is going for the high-five and she's like....maybe not.

This is a beautiful tiara but I think it might get a bit lost in her hair/veil situation. Interestingly, it's not a family piece, and we don't know a lot about it.

I remember that some of you mentioned Mary's neckline when Meghan and Harry got married, and I can see that.

This wedding had an unusual lot of cheek-kisses.

See? (They kissed on the lips, too, but for some reason all the pics looked slightly awkward, while these felt really sweet.)

Mary's bridesmaids were Jane Stephens and Patricia Bailey, her sisters, and her friends Amber Petty. They look like a girl group sponsored by Talbots.

Prince Henrik and Queen Margrethe

There were a LOT of people in pink at this wedding, to the point where I wonder if Mary told everyone that her colors were blush and bashful.

Princess Alexandra

Princess Alexandra here was, at this time, married to Fred's younger brother Joaquim -- they got divorced the following year, and then he married someone who looks JUST LIKE MARY. She looks fab here. She was apparently very popular with the Danes (and may still be! For what I understand, she and Joaquim are on good terms).

Sophie and Edward

Lord save us from the return of pashminas. (This color is very pretty on Sophs, though, and the tiara works well with this hair.)

Princess Elena and Jaime de Marichalar

I kind of love this very dramatic formal coat. God bless the Danes for making this such a tremendously formal event. As a reminder, she's King Felipe's older sister, and these two are no longer married.

Princess Laurentien, Prince Constantijn, Princess Maxima, Prince Willem Alexander and Queen Beatrix

Behold the Dutch! I am deeply perplexed by Maxima's coat/wrap shenanigans.

Queen Sonja and King Harald of Norway.

This is quite glam. I feel like I need to sit down every time she wears that tiara; I LOVE it.

Letizia and Felipe

DISHY! They were also in the run up to their own wedding, which happened two weeks after this.

Princess Martha Louise and Ari Behn

He is now, as you may remember, tragically dead; she has left the Norwegian royal family and has taken up with a self-styled shaman. Yes, she does have a section on her Wikipedia titled "controversies."

Prince Richard and Princess Benedikte of Denmark

She is Fred's aunt, and she looks FANTASTIC here. He reintroduced the European bison to Germany!

Queen Sofia and Queen Paola

Y'all, we are seeing SO MANY formal day coats! Especially for early May! Does Denmark suffer from June Gloom?

Crown Princess Mette Marit and Crown Prince Haakon

Mette Marit had fairly recently had a baby here, which I think is why she's wearing this vaguely unusual outfit. Her head looks great, though. (And Haakon always looks great and exactly the same age. Perhaps he's a vampire.)

Princess Alexia and Carlos Morales Quintana

He's a (handsome) architect and yachtsman who maaaaaybe did some light white collar crime! She is a Greek princess who does not have an interesting Wikipedia page. Her purse is compelling though.

Princess Caroline and Prince Ernst August

I was going to say that Caroline looks like she's soap opera villianess at the funeral of her detested spouse and then I noticed that she is actually in the company of her detested spouse! You never see them together anymore due to how they loathe one another. The "family" section of his Wiki is interesting and tragic, and he ALSO has a "controversies" section that involves an international incident involving public urination. He also at one point drank himself into a coma, and has been a real dickhead to his daughter-in-law, if I'm recalling correctly. The Hanoverians have A LOT going on.

Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Madeleine, Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustaf

OMG Princess Madeleine, you have to step away from the spray-tan!!!!!! YOU LOOK LIKE TAN MOM.

(Then) Princess Mathilde and Prince Philippe

So....this might be a personal best for Mathilde? She looks super in this. (And I appreciate her Sash Shenanigans.)

Farah Pahlavi and Duchess Francesca of Habsburg

So, these two. Farah was married to the last Shah of Iran until his death, and was eventually styled as Empress, and her Wiki is extraordinarily interesting. (The tiara in her engagement photo is STUNNING.) She's a very chic woman. Duchess Francesca of Habsburg looks eccentric and she has an incredibly long name: Francesca Anne Dolores Freiin Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kászon et Impérfalva. Her Wiki also describes her as being "amicably separated" from her husband and I love nothing more than rich artisos who refuse to get divorced for no good reason but instead just....stay married. Her father-in-law was a fascinating man who spent much of his youth in a massive feud with Hitler, and helped 15,000 Austrians escape the Nazis, among other things.

Roger Moore and Kiki Tholstrup (his wife)

Then Roger Moore showed up!

These are "the front pages of Denmark's national papers on the news that Danish Crown Prince Frederik will marry his Australian girlfriend Mary Elizabeth Donaldson."  These are so interesting.

Royal Wedding Rewind: Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Mary Donaldson

With an intriguing Hollywood cameo!
