First and foremost, I LOVE this hat on Kate.

It's like, if Wills gets to wear a hat with foofy furbelows, SO SHALL KATE. I think it's really clever how the detailing here vaguely (almost abstractly) echoes the feather in Wills's cap. (Which I do not have a photo of him wearing this year; for some reason, I don't have any pictures of the actual Garter procession.)

WILLS: Are you SURE I don't look ridiculous in this?
KATE: Weeeellllllllllll......I think you bring, er, great personal dignity to whatever you do, honey.

WILLS: That seems awfully diplomatic of you.
KATE: Did I mention that Harry said he would have nachos waiting for us when we get home?
WILLS: Are you changing the subject?!

I like to think that, in secret, everyone who wears this cape twirls it around in order to do a classic Dracula imitation.

It would be remiss of me not to mention that Kate is THANK GOD not wearing beige pumps with this. I cannot even believe it. It feels like a miracle. (In all honestly, while I actually really like these shoes, the whole thing is a little match-y for me, but to say so outside of a parenthetical felt ungrateful.)

Here's your complete look. I am relieved to note that she does not lack a bracelet -- although she might not actually need one. I KNOW. I'VE NEVER SAID THAT BEFORE.

And here are the rest of the ladies for your perusal. I always feel like the ombre effect of that coat on Camilla could be better done, but obviously I always feel comforted by the presence of a huge-ass platter on her head. And while I generally like that Alexander McQueen on Sophie, for some reason it feels really fussy today. I think it works better the way she wore it to the Chelsea Flower Show, with more of the pattern obscured. Also, is she wearing white tights? Soph, I have notes.
