I believe this is intended by Erdem to be an actual overcoat, but Kate never took it off, and -- per the What Kate Wore Twitter account -- she's wearing a camisole under it that she's used with a different suit before. Does this mean she is using the coat AS a dress, and wore nothing underneath? Surely not? And yet it looks like it's been pegged shut quite securely, so maybe she is. KATE, you RASCAL.

See, it looks like the coat's been sealed up tight but for an inch at the bottom there. And she's got the hand with the purse clamped in front of it. KATE, you minx. (Not that it's such a big deal to turn a coat into a dress; if that's what she did, though, it just makes me laugh to imagine her being like, "HAVE I ERRED OR WILL THIS WORK???" I would spent the entire day paranoid about it.)

Synchronized waving and cheerful reacting: a vital event in the Royal Olympics. (I like WIlliam's tie.)

The kids of Manchester were -- as is common everywhere -- pretty stoked to see her. She remained very composed while shaking hands with The Burger King, even while being stared down by an eyeless photo of her own face.

Apparently, one MAY pose for iPhone photos.

Informative caption: This is "a paving stone ceremony for Victoria Cross recepients at the Manchester Cenotap." In WWI, 628 Victoria Crosses were given out, per KP's Twitter account, and six recipients were born in Manchester. This was paying tribute to them.
As you'll see, Kate kept her graceful ponytail here...

... but then, and I've no clue why, at some point in the day she ditched it and let it all fly free. Perhaps it's in honor of going starkers under her coat. (I'm kidding. I'm SURE she's got undercrackers on.)

These two also visited the National Football Museum, where Wills got to meet a member of England's 1966 World Cup champion team -- and caress the winning ball, obviously. Then he gave one a boot in the simulator. Kate didn't, and I've decided it's because she's too nervous about whether she's pulling off going bare under her coat. I wonder if she and William picked a safe word they could hiss at each other whenever they need to reference this issue. Like... I don't know. Turnip.

Then they popped over to the National Graphene Institute for some SCIENCE (and they contributed to a time capsule). Apparently the study of graphene is being pioneered in Manchester; it's a carbon allotrope yada yada graphite yada honeycomb transparent yada. it's super thin and flexible, yet 100 times as strong as steel, so obviously people are pretty interested in isolating it and sorting out how to make more of it and where to apply it. Forbes had a big piece about this visit that explains it better. Apparently components of this car are ALSO graphene.

"Want to give it a spin, Kate? Georgie would love it for Crimbo."
"TURNIP, WILLIAM."

"Er... I'm quite stuck, actually.'

"Tell Harry I've got a goat that's THIS TALL, if he'd like to pop 'round for his own visit."
