Remembrance Sunday Service

There are rarely any full-length shots of any of these coats at this event (which is as it should be, of course), but I think we can all assume that everyone is appropriately garbed from the waist down. Let's take a closer look at everyone's hats (and all of their different poppy pins. It's interesting to me that there isn't One Specific Pin that everyone wears).

Kate

What Would Kate Do? says that Kate and Sophie are wearing the same (gorgeous) McQueen coat, and I believe that is in fact the case.*

*Update: Anna tells me that Kate is wearing the long version of the coat, and Sophie the short version. I like to think they send one another excited texts when a new McQueen coat appears.

Camilla

Camilla has truly never met a feathered/leaf-y piece of headgear that she didn't love (nor a choker, for that matter; this whole look is Very Camilla). One of you said once that Camilla "has the hair for huge hats" and I tend to agree. I appreciate that this is bringing some drama.

Sophie Wessex

I like Kate's hat, but I think Sophie's is my favorite on this occasion. (Kate's pin, however, I think is my favorite of the poppies. We'll call it a split decision.)

Prince William

This event also brings with it a preponderate of quite dashing Man Coats.

Prince William

And military hats, which are very handsome, generally speaking.

Queen Elizabeth II

This is the segment of the slideshow where I perhaps choose photos based on how dramatic they are, rather than on Detail of Hat.

The UK Observes Remembrance Sunday

Quite a turnout at the Tower today, as one would imagine. I'm so sad this wasn't in place when Heather and I were in London at the beginning of the year, because I imagine it's amazing in person, and I would have loved to have seen it. (Please report back if you have, as I know some of you have gone.)

Tower of London Poppies

It's just stunning.

Tower of London Poppies

Especially at night.

Tower of London Poppies

SO DRAMATIC and pretty.

Royally Played: The (Somber) Hats of Remembrance Day
Sunday is Remembrance Day in the UK,* and there was naturally much ceremony (apparently, the Queen got a round of applause, presumably at least in part because there was a foiled alleged assassination attempt this week and everyone was on high alert at this event as well). Let us look at the (appropriately) very serious hats, and also at some poppies, because I am obsessed with that Tower Poppies exhibit -- which is apparently going to go on tour. No Prince Harry today as he went to Afghanistan to observe with British troops, which is an excellent excuse for being absent indeed. *We here in the United States, of course, observe Veteran's Day on Tuesday. GFY is not taking a long weekend, so please drop by as usual. [Photos: Splash, Getty]
