Everything I thought I knew to be true about the world has just been destroyed: look who's getting along! My illusions have been shattered and I don't know how to feel. On the other hand, one of my main interests in life is whether or not people are in love with each other, so....yay?
I would (a) do anything if I didn't have to look at that little triangle of shirt at his waist and (b) be happier if the bottom of her dress wasn't sheer but clearly their new-found and frankly shocking apparently happiness has blinded them? What is even going on in the world right now.
Dear God, I want to watch this sitcom. I also just misread this, when proof-reading, as "Dear God, I want to watch this shitstorm," and I feel that's ALSO true.
Liz and Phil popped over to meet Pope Francis -- she's not wearing the traditional black gown and veil because all involved decided they wanted to be more informal, and instead she traded up to the GIANT bouquet. That color is lovely on her.
As at all of these events, gifts were exchanged. This is a pertinent excerpt:
"There was a rib of beef and a dozen eggs from Windsor, apple juice and quince jelly from Sandringham along with all sorts of other little luxuries but Philip, 92, proudly held up a bottle of whisky. “It’s from Balmoral up in Scotland,” his wife said. “This is from Buckingham Palace, from the garden,” she said, as the Duke of Edinburgh pointed to a jar of honey. “Honey from my garden. I hope that will be unusual for you.”"
Royals, they're just like us: they bring booze when visiting someone's home.
Ahem, per the photo peeps: "The Queen, The Duke Of Edinburgh and The Duke of Cambridge unveil the Windsor Greys statue in Windsor. The Statue marks 60 years of the Queen's Coronation in 2013 and the important role played by Windsor Greys in the Ceremonial life of the Royal Family and the Nation." I obviously picked this photo because Wills is doing up his suit jacket and you know how I feel about that.
Here is the aforementioned statue; it is QUITE large. I was just at Windsor in January, but I can't figure out where exactly they've put it. Children all over the land will be sad that it's too tall a statute to climb onto.
I've said to myself three times this week, "Are Harry and William wearing the same tie? IS THIS SOME CODED MESSAGE TO SOMEONE?" The answer, however, is no. They are not. It is not. I am just a crackpot. But! The beautifully tailored suits are very appreciated indeed.
So, Harry visited a new park with a bunch of schoolchildren -- what do we think is the plural of "schoolchildren"? I suppose, technically, it is probably "a busload" -- and played with them on the new playground equipment and he is clearly telling them of how his older brother endlessly torments him for being a ginger and then he says, "Henry VIII was a ginger too," and knocks his block off or some such.
And then the children tried to kill him. There's another shot of this where they are ALL on the swing and it was very VERY cute, and one of him pushing them (Harry really got into the playground equipment) but I couldn't resist this one because I am in love with the little girl who has her hands over her mouth. SHE CAN'T STAND ANY OF THIS. She is the best.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles went to an event celebrating the wonderfully monikered "Worshipful Company Of Hackney Carriage Drivers," to which he (appropriately) took a cab and (appropriately) tipped well. Every time I have an uneventful cab ride henceforth, I too shall refer to it as "a jolly trip."
Last we heard, Eugenie was living in New York and working at an auction house (Beatrice is the one whose job, per [I think] Us Weekly "has no real duties"). BUT apparently she's making personal appearances (in London) now. I obviously hate her shoes, but that color is nice on her and the photos from this event made it painfully clear that Eugenie is someone who Talks With Her Hands. For example:
I TOO am a hand-talker, so now I have some fondness for Eugenie.
Meanwhile, Fergie and Beatrice are going out together quite a lot. (a) Beatrice looks like she's wearing a waitress uniform here, and (b) Fergie certainly has upped her profile recently. PLEASE GOD let this be because she and Andrew are getting back together -- do they still live together in the same house? Last September she was making all this noise about the two of them getting back together. I cannot WAIT to see the side-eyes at their Re-Marriage. And the HATS.
To quote Getty: "Royal Collection Trust Curator Anna Reynolds and her colleague Rachel Woollen lift a chair containing Parisian dolls belonging to Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret at Buckingham Palace ahead of the Royal Childhood exhibition...[bringing] together objects from the Royal Collection, the Royal Archives and the private collections of members of the Royal Family, as well as previously unseen photographs and film footage." This is going to be on display during the summer opening of the state rooms at Buckingham Palace and if you're going this summer, you should totally go if you're into this stuff. We went to the winter tour as research for the new book and it's VERY COOL. Anyway, you know these women are like, "are you seriously going to take pictures of us moving stuff? Sigh. NOW what do we wear?!" (If you are reading this, ladies, you both look lovely.)
I also just assume they're going to come to life at night, right....?
I just wanted to squeal over that baby one more time.
Over to Spain! As ever, they both look very elegant.
She has worn this skirt before and I STILL love it. (I actually think it looks better this time.)
The photo service here had several photos of Queen Maxima's butt in these pants, to which I say two things: (a) Her butt looked good in them! and (b) HAVE SOME RESPECT AND DON'T TAKE PICTURES OF THE QUEEN'S BUTT. Or, really, anyone's butt, unless that butt is doing something very noteworthy like SOMEHOW SAVING A LIFE.
Additionally, I might love Maxima. She is seriously just wearing WHATEVER SHE WANTS.
Like, that's basically a turban and the coat might be lamé. She is the best.
