Prince Harry

Royals Round-Up

The series of photos from this event are endlessly funny. Let's start with the Informative Caption: "Prince Harry attending the 22nd Annual ICAP Charity Day. Prince Harry will be shown around the trading floors and meet brokers trading in various asset classes. Under guidance of ICAP brokers, HRH will speak to a small number of dealers on the telephone to 'close' deals. All the global revenues from trading during ICAP's Charity Day will go to a number of charities around the world, including England Rugby's All Schools Programme, of which Prince Harry is Patron. Other charities include Action Against Hunger, Women for Women International and Prostate Cancer UK." I can only assume that Harry watched Wolf of Wall Street in preparation for this event.

This is actually how I imagine every brokers floor.

ITV has a whole story with video from this event. My favorite bit might have been when Harry was asked to pose with two sort of scantily clad ladies and he apparently asked his handler, "is this a good idea?" SOMEONE KNOWS HIMSELF.

Additionally, that Big Bird might be wasted.

Crown Princess Mary

Royals Round-Up

Argh, I love all of this. The skirt, the cape, the boots: I am all in.

Crown Princess Mary

And EVERYONE looks cute here. I love that one kid's gold high tops as much as anything.

Crown Princess Mary

That blazer is doing everything in its power to turn into a wine cardigan.

I covet all these pieces separately and almost surely all together (unless we think this is suede overload, which it might be).

Queen Maxima

Royals Round-Up

And then Maxima swanned in, wearing a khaki cape.

Queen Maxima

Did I or did I not predict that Maxima was entering a potentially terrifying jumpsuit phase?! (I did.)

Queen Mathilde

I decided Mathilde and Mary got their suede clutches in a two-for-one deal for Royal Personages Whose Name Starts with M.

Queen Mathilde

This color is fetching on her, though. (I also love the woman in the red and white dots there in the second row. She was wise to wear something cheerful and bright for this picture.)

Princess Victoria of Sweden

This is the Sweden International Horse Show, and I suppose one OUGHT to wear one's riding boots.

King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia Of Sweden

Her parents are off in France, and I thought you might appreciate this hat.

Norwegian Royals Attends the 75th Anniversary of the Norwegian People's Aid in Oslo

Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit also left the house! As often, I have no idea what she's technically wearing.

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko

SPEAKING OF HATS. Informative Caption says, "Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko offer flowers at the cenotaph for victims of the 1945 atomic atomic bomb, at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park." She looks superb, I think: the tiny hat, the houndstooth, that winter white cape/top. Well done.

Queen Letizia

Letizia has worn this before -- the color is really nice on her. (It always reminds me of this suit of Kate's. Also that post has George AND puppies in it. FYI.)

Queen Letizia

This is obviously from the opening credits of her drama drama.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia

Informative Caption here informs me that F and L are here visiting the "Brandenburger Gate," which makes me think Informative Caption Writer must have been hungry. But they look so cold and so glamorous at the same time!

The Julian "Downtown" Felloweseses

Over in England. These two are not royalty, obviously, but this seemed as good a place as any to let everyone know that my plan is to look as much like Lady Fellowes here as possible, once I am Of a Certain Age.

Camilla

QE2 hosted a big white-tie reception for Members of the Diplomatic Corps this week. (We never see pictures from the inside of this event, as press isn't invited.) Because it was white tie, Camz got to drag out the tiara. (It is her family tiara, which she wore at her first wedding. The Daily Mail I Know has a real plethora of details on it.)

Camilla

I assume this is what she keeps said tiara in, when she's not wearing it.

The Duke Of Edinburgh

Philip went over to the opening of an exhibit of WWI planes at the RAF museum, and basically I can never resist photos in which planes are suspended from the ceiling.

QE2 and High Commissioner of Barbados Mr Guy Hewitt

"Does the brightness of my dress distract from the rug?"

Lego Wills and Kate

Until I started writing this feature, I had no idea how many people were spending so much time making Royal-Related Lego items. There's an exhibit of Great Legos afoot at the moment, and this is their Wills and Kate. (It's very inaccurate but nice WRT to William's hair.)

Lego Queen Elizabeth II

Tee hee.

Royals Round-Up, December 5, 2014
Are you ready for some coats? For some Legos? For a tiara, and a fur turban? (Not at the same time.) I am here for you. No other royals coverage on GFY this week BUT Wills and Kate arrive in New York on Sunday night and we will be ON IT, so next week should be fun. Elsewhere: This week marks Mathilde and Phillipe's fifteenth wedding anniversary, and The Court Jeweller takes a look back. They both look VERY MUCH YOUNGER, which I guess is...how time works. Us Weekly has an excerpt from Majesty magazine, in which Prince Harry talks about those Vegas pictures. (I cannot believe Harry gave an interview to Majesty, so I'm interested to know the actual provenance of his quotes). I'd like to thank everyone involved for running the portrait of Harry that they did. It is...compelling. Speaking of, at Vanity Fair, Prince Harry’s Wild Weekend of Hookah and Twerking May Send Him Back Up in The Air What Kate Wore has a great post about possible opportunities to see Wills and Kate (like, from the peanut gallery) while they're in NYC this weekend. Hello! brings us "8 Secrets of How The Royals Travel." William's luggage is nice. This reminds me of when we were at Windsor Castle last year on our research trip, we took a tour of the royal kitchens (fascinating) and when they were bringing us back through one of the hallways, there was a bunch of luggage sitting there. And the tour guide was like, "ooh, this probably isn't supposed to be here." It was the Queen's luggage. You could tell because her trunk said THE QUEEN on it. They also bring us Wills and Kate's Christmas plans. People has a very interesting piece about all the members of W&K entourage for trips like the New York one. I love behind the scenes stuff like that. Over at Royals Central, it's a very interesting essay about the Royal Coat of Arms from the scribe and illuminator for the Queen’s Crown Office. Royal Hats is in the midst of their Year in Hats round-up! The Duchess Diary brings us a round-up of the British Royal Family's holiday Instagram pics. (From the official Monarchy account, which you should follow if you're reading this, not from, like, Harry's secret Insta.) I assume you're all been following the DNA DRAMA behind the discovery of Richard III's bones in the car park. Per the BBC: "Scientists who studied genetic material from remains found in a Leicester car park say the finding might have profound historical implications. Depending on where in the family tree it occurred, it could cast doubt on the Tudor claim to the English throne or, indeed, on Richard's." The whole article is SO INTERESTING. My own Plantagenet roots are further up the tree than John of Gaunt, so let me tell you, friends, MY CLAIM TO THE THRONE IS ON! Also from the BBC: What's behind the downfall of Thailand's Princess Srirasmi? Do tell. This is from the Daily Mail (I Know), so...bear that in mind. BUT, it's juicy: Bust-up at Brideshead: After 58 years in iconic Castle Howard, owner forced out with his chatelaine in stunning coup... by his own brother. As usual, the DMIK has amazing photos of the interior. [Photos: Getty, Splash, PA Wire]
