Bless them for never phoning it in -- although Frederik doesn't work that beard as well as perhaps he thinks he does. It makes him look sort of....rumpled.

J'adore this tiara, and I don't know how I just noticed that their ceremonial necklaces (I'm sure that's the correct term!) have elephants on them. It's because they are members of the Order of the Elephant, which has a very interesting Wiki page. From what I can tell, it's basically Denmark's equiv of the Order of the Garter? (QEII, Philip, and Chaz are also in this one. Everyone must have some many sashes and necklaces and pins with tiny pictures of their relatives jangling around their closets, all over the place.)

So understated. I love her. Coordinating your footmen to your gown is a real baller move.

...but this is not quite so low key. This is like a fur bathrobe, and I'm sure some of you in the midst of the BOMB CYLONE right now might not mind having this on your body at the moment.

Japanese Emperor Akihito (3rd L), accompanied by Imperial family members delivers New Year's greetings to well-wishers at the Imperial Palace
Japanese royals celebrate New year on the balcony of the Imperial Palace, Tokyo, Japan - 02 Jan 2018
Some 126,000 people visited the Imperial Palace on the day to congratulate the Imperial family for the New Year.
Informative Caption tells us that "Japanese Emperor Akihito (3rd L), accompanied by Imperial family members, delivers New Year's greetings to well-wishers at the Imperial Palace...Some 126,000 people visited the Imperial Palace on the day to congratulate the Imperial family for the New Year." Everyone looks very elegant, as per usual. The princesses' level of color coordination is admirable.

Sophie Countess of Wessex
Christmas Eve church service, Sandringham, Norfolk, UK - 24 Dec 2017
This is a rewind back to Christmas Eve; Sophie, as befits the woman who is allegedly the Queen's favorite in-law, went with her to church SEVERAL times over the break, and always wore a sort of kicky chapeau.

Also Christmas Eve -- Wills and Kate and Harry and Meghan did not attend, so I gave myself the day off on this one. Louise looks so profoundly NORMAL. I love her.
