Prince William visit to the Isle of Man

Wills popped over to the Isle of Man this week -- Wills actually had rather a lot on this docket this week -- and I'm glad that the Queen has opened the door to royals wearing their sunglasses now. It makes everyone look cooler. (Also, I'm sure he loved this; he's got at least one motorcycle already, in part because it's very hard to recognize ANYONE on a motorcycle.)

Sophie Wessex

This is so great! And not just because I love Sophie's dress. Here, she poses with Margaret Bearley (89), and Ethel Lote (97), both of whom look smashing, at the National Memorial Arboretum, where, per the BBC, they unveiled a memorial honoring the nurses who died during WWI and WWII. These women were both nurses and I'm sure they have many many stories to tell.

Every time Sophie wears these pants, I scream a little bit inside. They just look like pajamas, and if she wants to wear them, she needs to wear a top that's not ALSO very voluminous!

This is the 10th anniversary of "Medical Detection Dogs...a charity aiming to transform disease detection by harnessing the extraordinary smelling power of dogs to develop tests for a range of life threatening conditions including cancer." That's neat! I also love how delighted the Queen always is at whatever dog-related thing she gets to attend.

YES, this is the thing at Westminster Abbey I keep blathering on about! "Queen Elizabeth II walks through the cloisters after opening The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries at Westminster Abbey in London." (Charles was also there, I just didn't like any of the photos he was in as much as this one.) Anything, this is really interesting -- essentially, they found and renovated a whole section of Westminster Abbey that had just been crammed full of random historic junk. You know, junk like "here's Queen Elizabeth I's handbag," or whatever. I love the idea that Westminster Abbey had a giant huge junk room. Anyway, if you're in London this summer -- or whenever, since I guess it's open forever now -- go see them. Hey, this means I can go see them next time!

That is neat! Also, LOOK AT ALL THOSE PICTURES IN THE BACKGROUND. After all the kerfuffle last week about the new pic of Harry and Meghan, I like the idea the the Queen is messing with us by just overloading us with pics. The wedding pic is Sophie and Edward, I think.

There were multiple garden parties this week. Here, Anne "talks to Edward Morrison, aged 99, during the Not Forgotten Association Annual Garden Party at Buckingham Palace....The Not Forgotten Association is a national tri-service charity which provides entertainment, leisure and recreation for the serving wounded, injured or sick and for ex-service men and women with disabilities." Yes, yes, "recreation." An excellent euphemism for recruiting these men and women into Anne's cadre of private detectives.

Maxima looks lovely here, in a photo snapped at the beginning of the week -- as is the next one -- before news broke that her younger sister very sadly died by suicide on Thursday. How extremely heartbreaking for her and her family.

Over in Norway, Princess Ingrid and her grandmother visited her sculpture park. She really resembles her father, Prince Haakon, to me.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Petro Poroshenko, the current president of Ukraine, and his wife Maryna are visiting. I love Letizia's skirt. His Wiki is quite a ride and includes someone dying under mysterious circumstances.

This was the opening of a tsunami monument, hence the serious expressions, but please do not take it the wrong way when I note that it is also the best of Victoria's suits to date.

It was also National Day in Sweden this week -- don't worry, the traditional Ladies in Traditional Costumes bit is coming up -- and I like to think that Victoria bought this dress after spending several months thinking about Kate's white Zimmermann. No shade, Victoria -- I myself LITERALLY bought the Zimmermann.
