Her Majesty The Queen will visit a replica of one of the original Sainsbury's stores in Covent Garden on the occasion of their 150th anniversary on Wednesday 22nd May 2019. To celebrate the milestone, Sainsbury's will launch a pop-up experience based on the very first store in London's Drury Lane which sold just three items - butter, milk and eggs. Hosted by Lord and Lady Sainsbury, The Queen will be taken on a journey through 150 years of Sainsbury's history. Her Majesty will experience a detailed recreation of an original store, highlighting key moments in time from Sainsbury's contribution to the development of rationing to the introduction of self-service shopping in the 1950s. The Queen will also view some of the modern day innovations and technology that customers use today, such as self-service tills.
Meanwhile, Sainsbury's is like, "100 years, NICE TRY FOOLS. We're at 150!!!" (Apparently, there is a pop-up shop replicating one of the original Sainsbury's stores in Covent Garden. This community style event, entitled 'A Celebration of Community' will see the LL for Co Fermanagh, Viscount Brookeborough introducing people from local businesses who will be set up in a courtyard, including Lisnaskea Men’s Shed and their currach. Inside the Archdale Centre volunteers and organisers who support the community spirit of Lisnaskea and surrounding areas, will share a Big Lunch. This will be an informal celebratory event where everyone will share food, friendship and fun in the run up to this years’ Big Lunch on 1-2 June.
