Let us begin with our Informative Caption. Gather round, please: "Prince Harry meets with British service personnel following a Remembrance Sunday service at Kandahar Airfield." Yes, after going to a rugby match on Saturday, Harry just, you know, POPPED ON OVER TO AFGHANISTAN to mark Remembrance Sunday with British troops. That's all.
Whilst there, he also wore his beret and looked hot in front of slightly out-of-focus flags, the better to be photographed dramatically.
INFORMATIVE CAPTION: "Prince Harry climbs to meet pilots of a RAF Tornado following a Remembrance Sunday service at Kandahar Airfield." I think my many years of reading books about People Having Romantical Problems During Wars have caused me to have a very positive knee-jerk reaction to the phrase, "pilots of a RAF Tornado."
This looks like a movie poster for a movie that I would watch. Several times. On a loop. (It doesn't hurt that one of those dudes looks rather like a Hemsworth.)
Yesterday, an old Standard was retired and a new one presented and Harry did the honors, and I enjoy that this calls for swords and spurs.
And then he rescued this woman's hat when it blew off. HARRY. You are truly doing yeoman's work in the name of goodness this week, from visiting the troops in far off lands to rescuing millinery for fair ladies at home.
He also went to a private view of 'Wounded: The Legacy of War," which is, Informative Caption tells me, a "photography exhibition by Bryan Adams of young wounded servicemen and women from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts." Here he is with the artist, proving that it is not the same Bryan Adams* of "Summer of 69," or "Have You Ever Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLLY SERIOUSLY REALLY Ever Loved a Woman," both of which, however, I believe are chapter titles in Harry's eventual autobiography. I kind of wish he were also wearing jeans.
*EXCEPT I WAS WRONG AND IT IS. In my defense, in my head, Bryan Adams looks like 1987. I had no idea he was such a double-threat. You go, Bryan Adams.
This art exhibit looks excellent, though. Go, people of London!
Speaking of art, this is a very cheeky (although I think quite affectionate, if nude) bit of graffiti that's popped up in North London over the past week. I read an article in which the person whose storefront this is said he's already gotten a ton of people calling and asking if he can chip it off the wall so they can buy it. He can't, but I hope one of those callers was William, who wants to hang this over his bathtub.
This was some fairly good side-eye from Kate, which I assume is the expression she gave to that street art when William drove past it and said, "don't you think that'd be absolutely ripping hanging above my bath, poppet?! DON'T YOU?"
I will always bring you Up-Do Back of Head Close-up For Maximum Pinteresting.
Kate's parents also were invited to this event and I like to think that she and her mother showed up and looked at each other and were like, "UM."
Because otherwise, it's just too matchy-matchy. My guess is that the apple just didn't fall far from the tree.
WILLS: Bye, Middletons! WAIT until you see this new painting of Kate I'm trying to get! It's REALLY something!
KATE: WILLS. Don't tell them about it. They're my parents.
Over in Germany, these two attended the Bambi Awards and HOLY SMOKES, Mary looks great in that dress. CPF looks like he just fell out of a rolled up tapestry.
Now, FINALLY, I am allowed to share with you all the snaps of CPM in South Africa. I apologize for the delay in these -- she is often embargoed, I don't know why, and we have to wait it out, because I don't want to get sued. Anyway. This is a rather underwhelming opening, for me, but who can follow that navy sequined number and NOT underwhelm?
I have no idea what's happening on her feet -- so blurry! -- but the dress is sunny and chipper.
And this is AMAZING. I don't know if I think her top is 100% succcessful, but that skirt is major and everyone's just looking at those ginormous earrings anyway.
She LOVES this crazy coat, but I'm in love with the moderately crazy pants on the woman behind her.
Mary DOES NOT need a bracelet.
She ALSO looks Hotter in Sunglasses, because no one is immune to that.
And now she's back in Denmark -- this is an event for the American Chamber of Commerce -- and I have to admit, this is ALSO sincerely glorious, and I love it. A very strong showing from Mary this week. Round of applause.
Felipe and Letizia zipped over to the Grand-Ducal Palace in Luxembourg for an official visit. I really liked the dress on Letizia at first glance, but it's doing whatever the opposite of "growing on me" is. Falling off me?
But I am FEELING her winter white coat.
AND that clutch. (Bonus Crown Prince Guillaume sighting. I don't currently have a shot of Princess Stephanie, but I'm working on it.)
While they were out of the house, Felipe and Letizia ALSO went to Brussels. I LOVE this outfit on Letizia. I feel like Queen Mathilde is thinking, "I kind of regret this wreath on my head. I'm so used to standing next to Maxima, in some giant headpiece."
Maxima is like, "YOU CALLED?"
As goofy as she looks in the prior slide, she and Beatrix look appropriately somber and elegant here, at a memorial for the victims of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 disaster.
This is the "Welsh Guards regimental remembrance Sunday lunch" and I look forward to one of you telling me why he's wearing a bowler, because I'm sure there's a reason. (I kind of would like to see the return of this hat in general.)
I don't know to whom Governor General of Canada David Johnston is gesturing here, but whoever he is, HE'S GUILTY.
This is the Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance and it's hard to take a flattering picture of people mid-song. I wish I had a full-length gander at Sophie's dress.
Is she wearing purple tights?! This is a meeting with Girl Guides, and nothing is more appealing to young girls -- not to generalize -- than purple tights.
CAN WE JUST DISCUSS THESE SEQUINS? The old girl's still got it.
