This is a nice event -- there were a lot of events this week in the run-up to Remembrance Day. Informative Caption says, "Prince William attends a Submariners' Remembrance Service and Parade, held each year to honour submariners of all generations who have 'Crossed the Bar' in service to their country, at Middle Temple in London."

Chaz and Cams Visit Nigeria

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Tim Rooke/REX/Shutterstock (9969877ce) Naomi Campbell and Prince Charles Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall tour of Nigeria, Africa - 07 Nov 2018 On arrival, His Royal Highness will view a Bronze sculpture of Her Majesty The Queen by Ben Enwonwu. Following this, His Royal Highness will meet members of Nigeria Commonwealth Walkway Committee and a number of Nigerian fashion designers, who will be dressed in traditional Nigerian attire. Following this, His Royal Highness will be introduced to a number of guests from the political, business, arts and entertainment sectors in Lagos. His Royal Highness will say a brief few words before departing. In the 1950s, Ben Enwonwu was commissioned to create a sculpture of Her Majesty The Queen, who came to his studio to sit for him. Ben was later awarded an MBE. His work s are held by the Tate, the Smithsonian, the Fisk University Museum and the National Gallery in Lagos, as well as in private collections, including The Royal Collection

Meanwhile, Chaz and Cams are currently in Nigeria (and were in Ghana, as you will see), hanging out with Naomi Campbell, as one does! (She is at this event as part of duties as one of the people behind Lagos Fashion Week. Informative Caption says, at this event, Charles "will meet members of Nigeria Commonwealth Walkway Committee and a number of Nigerian fashion designers, who will be dressed in traditional Nigerian attire. Following this, His Royal Highness will be introduced to a number of guests from the political, business, arts and entertainment sectors in Lagos." I don't think Camilla came to this one, but I may be wrong. (She sometimes ducks out for a day or two of a tour and lets Chaz go solo.)

This was a "reception at the British High Commissioners residence in Abuja," and I ALSO need to know who the woman at the far left is, because her dress is fantastic.

Prince Charles in Ghana

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Tim Rooke/REX/Shutterstock (9959502ad) Prince Charles visits Christainborg Castle, Osu, Ghana Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall tour of Ghana, Africa - 03 Nov 2018 Built in the 17th Century, Christiansborg Castle originally operated as a Danish slave trade fort. With Ghana’s independence from Britain in 1957, Christiansborg Castle was renamed Government House and became the seat of the Ghanaian Government. In February 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo announced plans to convert the castle into a Leadership Museum exhibiting Ghanaian Heads of State. Plans to deliver this vision for the castle are under development, led by architect Sir David Adjaye. To mark 400 years since the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the United States, Ghana has declared 2019 as a ‘Year of Return’, inviting Africans in the diaspora to journey to the country.

Earlier this week, in Ghana, Chaz visited Christainborg Castle. Informative Caption was unusually informative: "Built in the 17th Century, Christiansborg Castle originally operated as a Danish slave trade fort. To mark 400 years since the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the United States, Ghana has declared 2019 as a ‘Year of Return’, inviting Africans in the diaspora to journey to the country."  If you've read Homegoing -- and you should, it is exceptionally good -- the opening parts of that novel are set at a similar place in Ghana. The Clarence House Instagram had more coverage of this visit, and it is well-worth your time. I believe the woman he is speaking to is Nana Oforiatta Ayim, a Ghanian artist and writer, who also happens to look extremely fantastic.

Chaz and Cams in Jamestown, Accra

Mandatory Credit: Photo by REX/Shutterstock (9959643b) Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall attend an Art, Music, Dance and Youth Exhibition at Jamestown, Accra Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall tour of Ghana, Africa - 03 Nov 2018 Their Royal Highnesses will be greeted by The Minister of Sport, Honourable Isaac Asiamah, The Second Lady of Ghana. The Prince and The Duchess will then walk through the James Barnor photography exhibition, before being introduced to Boxers Azumah Nelson, and Isaac Dogboe, and view a sports demonstration. Their Royal Highnesses will then move into the nearby courtyard to be introduced to Shatta Wale, a leading musician in Ghana with a global following. His Royal Highness will be invited to take a seat and watch a performance by the young D.J. Switch, including choreography by the dancers and roller skaters from the Performance for Action Team.

I assume the cool Instagram influencers of Accra all pose for pics in front of this mural regularly. (It is a great mural.)

"Dang it. This is one of Meghan's old scripts from Suits." (In actuality, here she is at "the Ghana International School (G.I.S.) for the Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition," and I assume that is one of the winning essays. One of the things I like about Camilla is how much she likes to read.)

The flag will represent cultural diversity through the unique colours of the 53 member counties of the Commonwealth. Asafo Flags, by the warrior groups in Akan tribe from Ghana since the 18th century are visual representations of military organizations in traditional Fante communities known as “Asafo.” The Fantes are an Akan people of the Southern coast of Ghana. The cultural significance of Asafo flags still stands strong often displayed at different social events including festivals, ceremonies and festivals and are still made and used today as an important part of communal life in Fante villages. The flags often illustrate powerful visual metaphors, such as animals like the crocodile which represents strength in the Fante communities.

And also drink, although this is still at the school, and I assume they're not giving rum cocktails to people at lunch.
