Queen Maxima

Apparently, Maxima is opening a museum called Micropia, which is devoted to " micro-organisms in the world, the invisible and most powerful life forms on earth." Which I suspect explains why she's holding a couple of saucy-looking mushrooms right there.

Queen Maxima

The photographer assigned to this trip is my hero. He look like seventy pictures of Maxima's hat. I like to imagine what these dudes are thinking sometimes, and on this occasion, I suspect he was thinking, "this hat is totally nutty. The bloggers are going to NEED TO DISCUSS IT."

Queen Maxima

She ALSO has it in red. And I love this look on her, honestly. It's appropriately vivacious. (Those shoes are SAUCY.)

The Countess Of Wessex

Sophie apparently is also an "Honorary Air Commodore" and here is visiting RAF Wittering in Stamford. She actually looks GREAT at this event. I mean, yes: Blue suit + Nude Shoes = British Royals Uniform of Choice Mash-Up, but it works on her, and facially she's never looked better.

The Countess Of Wessex

You know I am incapable of resisting small children in school uniforms waving flags.

The Countess of Wessex

Sophie LOVES this coat; she wears it all the time. (It's her own Alexander McQueen version of Kate's blue coat [the pockets flaps are flipped up and over the belt on this one]).

Queen Mathilde of Belgium

MORE CHILDREN WITH FLAGS. Additionally, Mathilde is way into this color.

Queen Mathilde

"What do you MEAN, they're not going to let us do the bayonet demonstration? WE'VE BEEN PRACTICING FOR WEEKS."

Felipe and Letizia

This is the International Cattle Fair and I don't know about you but this doesn't look like a cow TO ME. (Take the horse home, you guys! It's clearly love! Felipe SHOULD have a white horse!)

Felipe and Letizia

"They get HOW tall? Okay, I'll take six of these, too, I guess."

Felipe and Letizia

This might be one of my favorite dresses Letizia has ever worn. I just love the color.

Felipe and Letizia

And the pink tie on Felipe! VERY saucy (and coordinated). I approve.

Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik

CPM wears this dress all the time, but who could resist? It's so glam. (As is this setting.)

Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik

Same event, just better lighting. This was the 400th anniversary of the Danish army, who I can assume that is CPF's army uniform. It's dishy.

Crown Princess Mary

CPM is opening a playground here -- a ballet playground? I don't know. -- but I enjoy that this event appears to be sponsored by Benetton.

Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik

Are those gold metallic shoes? VICTORY IN OUR TIME!

Royals Round-Up, October 3, 2014
Lots of livestock and military uniforms in the slideshow this week, albeit not in the same picture. Additionally: Maxima has it BAD for those little turban hats: she wore TWO this week. ELSEWHERE: There's an interesting article in the Telegraph this week about the possibility of Prince Charles becoming Prince Regent should QE2 start to lose her marbles/get too old to really deal with all the massive amounts of stuff people want her to do all the time (um, to paraphrase). They're quick to note that NO ONE thinks this is currently happening -- I think this exact convo is had on a semi-regular basis -- but it's all very interesting. I mean, that is one long-lived family, and she's never going to step down, so it only makes sense to have some kind of plan Just In Case. (Although I don't know if I think SHE will allow it.) William (and presumably Kate) is cheesed off by the fact that a particular paparazzi photog has been all over Prince George and his nanny lately -- which is surely one of the reasons they want to move out to the country house, and I can't really say I blame them. Apparently, this photographer is also the one who, like, climbed a tree to get pictures of Kate playing tennis in Cornwall one Christmas before they were married, so he's probably been pinned to the back of the dartboard in William's study for years now. (BBC) Our friends at The Court Jeweller take a look at the Swedish royals attending the opening of their parliament. The folks over at From Berkshire to Buckingham takes an interesting look at the history of the signet ring in the British royal family (with a focus on the Middletons, actually). It's like Tatler knew Prince Harry wasn't leaving the house this week, because they put together a whole slideshow of him for your perusal. Speaking of, I have kind of come around on Cressida for literally no reason that I can pinpoint, but it's good, because things might be back on. She also attended a charity event (one of the charities of which Chaz is a patron, actually) and looked...well, mildly nutty but slightly less nutty than usual. (Hello!) The Queen's former press secretary, Dickie Arbiter, has a new book out (it's called On Duty With the Queen, and I am obviously going to buy it. Let's just get real) and Royal Central did an interview with him to mark it. The Daily Mail (I Know) had a very extensive write-up of Deborah Mitford's funeral, which is quite fascinating. (The Mail always has the most photos of these things, and is good at Random Aristocratic Logistical Details.)
