Prince Harry

HELLO.

Wills and Harry

This may be the best royals photo of the summer.

William and Camilla and Chaz and Harry

This was from the opening ceremony of The Invictus Games, Harry's passion project, which he's been working on for AGES and which seems to be going quite well. Good on you, Harry.

Prince Harry

He even gave a speech!

Harry and A Foo Fighter

Dave Grohl even showed up. Dave seems to be having some GRAVE GRAVE doubts about whatever it is that Harry is yapping about, however,

Prince William

This was the Oxford event which Wills and Kate were both to attend, but she was too barfy to come out -- it was secretly quite nice of Kate to stay home this week when I was too busy to give her the attention she would have deserved. ANYWAY, he totally looked like the cat that got the cream the entire time, as an expectant father ought. And then he went home to go "look after her," which is also very sweet. Yay, babies! (I also appreciate that this baby and my own baby -- the new book, I'm not actually having a human baby at the moment -- may very well share a birthday. Actually, there is a scene in The Royal We that takes place at an Oxford museum opening, which we wrote long before this happened. ARE WE INFLUENCING THE FUTURE?)

Prince William

It seems, in my time of exhaustion, that I may have downloaded two photos of Suit Unbuttoning inadvertently. I would never deny you unbuttoning.

Prince William

"Um, do I just have to hold this the whole time?"

Prince Harry Meets The New Zealand Invictus Games Team

Aw, Harry got to hang out with the New Zealand contingent, even if he didn't get to go to NZ with Wills and Kate.

Prince Harry Attends Invictus Games Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge

"Shit, I hope people come to this thing. What if you invite a bunch of athletes to an event and no one shows up?"

Princes William and Harry attend Day 1 of the Invictus Games **USA ONLY**

I can only assume that poor Kate was too sick to do what I would hope she would do when faced once again with these pants on William -- namely, shriek and forbid him to wear them ever again, then gently set them on fire.

"Next on our agenda: Casual Trousers: How Do They Work?"

Prince Frederik and Prince Charles

Crown Prince Frederik popped by for the Invictus Games, which is excellent of him. Harry should be proud of himself that he pulled off such a big successful event for such a good cause.

Crown Prince Frederik

FYI, he looks handsome.

rown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary

And this is very dashing. She looks glam as ever -- I'm always enamored by the European Royals One Glove In Hand tradition (as opposed to the glovelessness of the younger Brits). Insert comment about her shoes, obviously.

Crown Prince Frederik

CPF also made it out for some charitable golf, and looked very jaunty doing it.

Felipe and Letizia

Over to Spain. She's worn this before, and I totally support those shoes.

Felipe and Letizia

One of you once said that these two always look like they're talking about whether or not Letizia left the curling iron on, and that does seem to be what's happening here.

Queen Letizia

What else would one wear to greet the Badminton Champion of the World?

Braemar Highland Games

Ahem: "The Braemar Gathering is the most famous of the Highland Games and is known worldwide. Each year thousands of visitors descend on this small Scottish village on the first Saturday in September to watch one of the more colourful Scottish traditions. The Gathering has a long history and in its modern form it stretches back nearly 200 years." Also, there are kilts. This looks like a kick. What happens at a Highland Games? I hope there's dancing and feats of strength.

Princess Eugenie and Dude

Eugenie isn't missing a single major tennis event this summer. This is at the US Open.

Princess Beatrice

Meanwhile: "God, having a proper job is SO BORING. How do you all do it?"

Princess Eugenie

"I KNOW RIGHT. BORING."

All kidding aside, both girls were working at Annual Charity Day, which is September 11th, and good on them for it. I just couldn't resist the visual of Beatrice all slumped over her desk, LIKE THE REST OF US. I also enjoy that Fergie appears to be growing out her Eugenie's shoulder here.

Fergie and Eugenue

Fergie Ferg looks pretty great. Eugenie looks....not great. This is not a flattering decision.

Queen Maxima Of The Netherlands Attends Financial And Pension Seminar

But don't worry. Maxima is off swanning about with but one sleeve, which is how I always imagine her.

Prince Harry

Have a great weekend!

Royals Round-Up, September 12, 2014
SO MUCH TO DISCUSS THIS WEEK. Well, mostly that Wills and Kate are having another baby! (Um, but Prince Harry got a good waxwork? That's a good gift to the world, also.) There's loads of Brits in the slideshow, but also I bring you Maxima! Letizia! Crown Princess Mary! And the following: Hello! brings us Windsor babies through the ages. Chaz hopes Kate's having a girl. (The Mirror) Harry is ALSO delighted about the baby, because he "can't wait to see [William] suffer more." (Vanity Fair) Vanity Fair's coverage of the royals is reliably enjoyable; they think Kate's Malta trip may well be off. (They also are implying that Harry's birthday is off, which is not going to happen, y'all. I mean, she's on bed rest right now, so she's probably not cooking it, but HARRY WILL PARTY.) Well, this is a relief: Archbishop of Canterbury likely to lead funeral of Richard III. Actually, I think that event will be highly fascinating. I am related to the Plantagenents, do you think I'll get invited? I demand an invite. (The Telegraph) ITV has video of Harry announcing that he is delighted that he's one head further from being King with this new baby on the way. Which Royal Baby Is This? (Radio Times) Oooh,Secrets of Britain's Royal Jewels! (The Court Jeweller) Our friends at The Duchess Diary talks to Penny Junor, whose new book about Prince Harry seems to be both juicy and possesses a dreamy cover (I just got a copy this week!) about all kinds of Royals Reporter-type questions. This is an interesting take on the Scottish independence question, which I obviously cannot begin to pretend I really fully understand the intricacies of, noting that if Scotland does vote for independence, The Queen will be very VERY upset.
